RNC unveils dramatic Trump convention stage

The set that will host Donald Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland will feature a massive video board and twin white staircases leading up to the stage.

The 1,711 square foot video board will sit center stage above the speaker, the focal point of a stage flanked by silver-colored “blades” that will hide wires and lighting from viewers both inside Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena and on television. Republican National Convention CEO Jeff Larson guaranteed at a preview event Tuesday that Trump’s acceptance speech on the final night of the event will happen inside the arena and will not be moved to another, larger location.

This stage is no more or less offensive than any other. Let's admit that our opinion is based on what we think of the presumptive nominee. Having said that, I still have no interest.

They used to highlight the party's rising stars and most popular figures.

This time it will be all about Trump and not the party.

I want to know who the hell vetted this. I think it was a sabotage because that is very similar, eerily so, to Corrado Feroci's work. I wouldn't be surprised if someone modeled it after The Democracy monument in Thailand he built, but they didn't research his past. (He was Mussolini's version of Albert Speer). Feroci changed his name to Silpa Bhirasri when he moved to Thailand when he escaped from Italy at the end of the war.

While the set is the result a “very open discussion” between the Trump campaign and convention organizers, Alongi said the Manhattan billionaire’s flair for the dramatic will not change the nature of event.

Why do we need this dog and pony show again? People get up they make a speech. It's not a disco.

I'm not necessarily going to blame Trump for this one. Long gone are the days of blue drapes in the background framed by a few American flags.
During the debates  I have noticed the excessive extravagance of the stages that must have cost a fortune, each one seeming to top the debate before - shiny and beautiful. Would we expect less needless spending at the convention?


Sad really.

Yea, I don't think Trump is to fault, he isn't an architect or designer. I would start with Phil Alongi (who came from NBC). Seems he wanted to give an air of authoritarian (won't use the f word but see my note above) coldness. It is very reminiscent of a certain style.
