Unlike any previous major party platform, the final draft of the 2016 Democratic platform explicitly calls for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion except in cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.

A press release from the Democratic Party on Saturday proudly announced, “The platform goes further than previous Democratic platforms on women’s reproductive rights. It champions Planned Parenthood health centers and commits to push back on all Republican efforts to defund it.”

So the Dems will now take an extreme position on abortion -  one they've never dared take before.

I guess this is what Trump has wrought - he's given the other side the excuse it needs to push its positions to the extremes.  When Trump loses in a landslide, the Dems won't see the election as a repudiation of Trump but rather a mandate to move even farther to the left, on abortion, on climate change, on judges, on regulation, you name it.

There's an opportunity here,  but only if the GOP can unite behind a compromise candidate.   Three weeks to go before the convention,  three weeks to go to talk the GOP off the ledge,  three weeks to go to grab the wheel away from the crazy man.

The presumptive Republican nominee is for taxpayer-funded abortion clinics staffed with taxpayer-funded abortion doctors, just not taxpayer-funded abortions.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Whoa, there.  Didn't the Supreme Soviet just declare that doctors are not necessary for abortions?  Texas tried to make them mandatory but the Soviet said no.

Trump is a move to the left.
