Democrat Hillary Clinton holds a five-point advantage over Republican Donald Trump after becoming her party's presumptive presidential nominee, according to the latest national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Forty-six percent of registered voters back Clinton, versus 41 percent who support Trump - slightly up from Clinton's three-point lead in May, 46 percent to 43 percent.

When the horserace is expanded to four candidates - including Libertarian Gary Johnson and the Green Party's Jill Stein - Clinton gets support from 39 percent of voters, Trump gets 38 percent, Johnson 10 percent and Stein 6 percent.

The NBC/WSJ poll - conducted June 19-23 - comes after Clinton clinched the number of delegates needed to become the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee; after the tragic June 12 Orlando, Fla., shootings; and after a rough three-week stretch for Trump's campaign.

This poll is just liberal media propaganda. All the guys in my local bar and my 2,0000 great, great ,great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great.....grandma who has never voted for a Republican are voting Trump. But look at the rallies. The rallies. That's more scientific than polling.

The problem both have is they are well known by the public. And well disliked. Nothing either can do to change people's perceptions of them so this will be an event election.

However, Trump does have an uphill battle. If he can't pass her, assuming these polls are correct, after what happened in Orlando then I don't know what he can do
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I wonder how long its been since a major party won less than 40% of the vote.

In the 90's. Bill Clinton didn't have a clear majority, thanks to Ross Perot.

What is conveniently omitted is the ratio of Democrat/Republican/Independents surveyed.

If you skew your poll to favor one demographic, your results are going to favor that demographic.
Trump is for America First.

One of the repeat lessons from the Brexit campaign is how spectacularly wrong all of the polls were.

Again.

This happens with every single election cycle and the more controversial the topic, the more inaccurate the polls get.  I think people are more and more inclined to lie to a pollster to give the most politically correct answer that may or may not reflect how they really voted.

Out of the five major polls on the Brexit... two thought it a squeeker with the "leave" vote winning, two thought the same with the "remain" vote winning... and one had it too close to call.

The vote was 51.9% the leave, 48.1% to stay.

I'd say the polls were pretty accurate.

Wall Street investors who bet big on Stay would likely disagree with you, but who can say?

I do not put much trust in polls no matter what.

I wouldn't say to blindly trust polls.

But I wouldn't summarily dismiss them, either
