House drops Confederate Flag ban for veterans cemeteries

By Matthew Nussbaum

06/23/16 11:45 AM EDT

A measure to bar confederate flags from cemeteries run by the Department of Veterans Affairs was removed from legislation passed by the House early Thursday.

The flag ban was added to the VA funding bill in May by a vote of 265-159, with most Republicans voting against the ban. But Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) both supported the measure. Ryan was commended for allowing a vote on the controversial measure, but has since limited what amendments can be offered on the floor.

In negotiations to reconcile the House funding measure with the Senate bill, the confederate flag provision was dropped. The bill passed the House 239-171.

Wimps need to go.  This should never have been an issue.

Agreed. It never should have been. The mere fact that the GOP liberals allowed it to get this far in the first place shows how screwed up the party is.

The dems will just keep adding it to bills until they get it into a 'must pass'. And the GOP will THEN say "That bill was too important to not pass!"

And thus the Kabuki of 'Two Parties" is maintained for the masses and like idiots, they will reelect the complicit frauds in the GOP...no matter what...

The US government should never allow a flag representing a hostile power who killed US soldiers and citizens to be flown over US military cemetaries.  That dishonors the very reason why they died... protecting and defending the United States.

It'd be like flying the ISIS flag over a US military cemetary.

Well first of all,   they weren't defending anything.   They were attacking a bunch of states who wanted freedom from the Control of Washington D.C.,  a position that I strongly empathize with nowadays.

ISIS huh?   That group that gang rapes captured sex slaves and burns people alive for being the wrong religion?

Yeah,  people fighting for their independence against an invading army are exactly like Sadistic Muslim murderers.
