Paladino predicts ‘war’ if there’s an attempt to derail Trump at convention

Republican rumblings about their presumptive presidential nominee are growing louder throughout the party across the country – but you don’t hear much of the talk in New York State.

Party conservatives appalled at Donald Trump’s penchant for controversy are seeking some way – any way – to derail his nomination at the Republican National Convention that will open July 18 in Cleveland.

But any move to stop Trump will encounter a firewall from New York State Republicans, especially Western New Yorkers assigned to key committees.

“If there is any attempt in the rules committee to somehow allow delegates to go away from their pledged duty, there’s going to be a war,” said Buffalo developer and 2010 GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl P. Paladino, a campaign co-chairman for Trump in New York.

Paladino and Erie County Republican Chairman Nicholas A. Langworthy are warning any Republicans even contemplating a political coup against Trump to “back off.”

“There’s a lot of firepower here from Western New York in the mix,” Langworthy said. “If there is a problem in Cleveland, we would be the go-to people to work against that.”

Paladino, a Trump delegate and credentials committee member, did not mince words in warning any potentially wayward Trump delegates. “I’d certainly whack them if they went off the reservation,” he said.

Continued

Paladino, however, questions whether other New York Republicans are as committed to Trump as those from Erie and other western counties. “I don’t trust our entire delegation,” he said. “Everything is not as hunky-dory as it appears.”

Paladino, who is often critical of State GOP Chairman Edward F. Cox, contends that the Kasich campaign received silent encouragement from GOP headquarters during the primary campaign. He also said he believes that the nominee will even prefer that Cox relinquish announcing the bloc of votes that officially confers the nomination, a duty traditionally reserved for the chairman of the nominee’s home state delegation. “We want Donald Trump Jr. to be the delegate that makes that announcement,” Paladino said, adding that he remains “hesitant” about Cox acting as chairman of the New York contingent to the convention.

“I still don’t trust him,” Paladino said. “If Cox keeps his word, fine – not like playing the games he did in the primary.”

Hopefully not in a permanent sense, but with Trump Supporters involved I guess one never knows.   :pondering:

Trump has the ability to 'control' his supporters; that's already been proven and he himself has already made comment and set the pretext if he's not made the nominee at the convention; "I think you would have riots".  Ugliness has surrounded Trump's campaign. I don't see the convention as being any different.  He will become the nominee by attacks and intimidation; that's the Trump way.

The headline sounded so unbelievable, I was expecting it to be an exaggeration of what was actually said.   But his actual words back up the headline in spades.
And the democrats have their own convention problems with the Sanders people who are already putting together their violent protest regiments of leftist granola crunchers and anarchist.

Gonna be a long hot summer.    If we get through it without some level of Civil War I will be shocked.

I agree with you.  Keep in mind however, that Trump won the majority of delegates fair and square, however, it is becoming very apparent that he is unfit to be Commander in Chief because of his total lack of knowledge of the office. His supporters refuse to see it and I don't see how the RNC is going to be able to justify not handing him the nomination.  Clinton on the other hand definitely has the knowledge and experience to become Commander in Chief, but is unfit because she's a criminal.  I'm not quite sure the Sanders supporters see her as the criminal that she is, they just like Bernie's socialistic agenda better and probably have figured out the way she has accumulated the Super delegates the fix has been in from the very beginning.

It's a shame Trump has focused on our electoral process being a sham; something we're used to hearing about in other countries. He has made a mockery out of this election for all the world to critique.  You can bet IF we ever see another election, the electoral process will be changed and I think you will certainly see the end of open primaries.

No , he didn't.  He lied, cheated and persuaded dammocraps to join him in overthrowing the legitimate Republican Party.  He is a common criminal.

He accused his primary opponents of all kinds of crap. He planted "news" denigrating them. He pretended they cheated and stole elections.

There was nothing "fair and square" about the primaries.

Near the end of the primaries, it was stated that 85% support was for "outsiders," Trump, Cruz and Carson.

#Nevertrumps and party elites are delusional to think the Trump voters will just quietly be pushed off the stage.

Trump is for what the people and the voters are for, and the party elites are not.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

This is straight out of the Pontius Pilate school of governing.  Don't lead.  Just give the people what they want.

As a guy who proudly supported Paladino in 2010—and that's mainly because New York's political situation is one of the most baroquely mangled-up "republican form(s) of government" there is—I must say the man has gone totally off the deep end.

He currently sits on the Buffalo school board. Not long after he won re-election this year by a surprisingly narrow margin (Paladino earned a reputation as a totally irascible obstructionist whom even his allies, many of which lost re-election because of him, didn't agree with by the end of his first term), his opponent (some 18-year-old stooge) ended up getting mysteriously arrested.

The guy has become a goon and I fear for his mental health.
