Looks like Killdeer. Smart little birds
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

They might do better, under the foliage of them yonder scrub brush clusters.

Sunday Phoenix was 117, Palm Springs was 110, Murietta was 105+, etc. Arid (dry) by comparison to further east.

I reside in cool ocean breeze washed Orange County. When I venture inland, my body needs some time to get accustomed.

But my body never accustoms to temps above 105 F, never.

During my military and corporate years, I spent time in humid heat, and it was awful (Houston, Indianapolis, even
Germany).

OTOH much of the West is at higher elevations, and high temps at high elevations can be horrific for me.

I started a five mile walk once in Colorado Springs at 6,000 ft. about 12 hours after arriving, and 90 F degrees plus the elevation almost made me pass out on my feet.
