House Speaker Paul Ryan says he will be like an umpire during GOP convention on Trump votes
By S.A. Miller - The Washington Times - Sunday, June 19, 2016

House Speaker Paul Ryan, who will serve as chairman of the Republican National Convention, said he's taking a hands-off approach if delegates move to block Donald Trump from getting the presidential nomination.

"It is not my job to tell delegates what to do, what not to do or to weigh in on things like that," Mr. Ryan said in an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

The speaker described his roles at the July convention in Cleveland as that of an umpire who would "call balls and strikes and just play it by the rules."

But it is up to the rules committee that meets a week before the convention to write the rules, said Mr. Ryan, who has had a rocky relationship with Mr. Trump but eventually has endorsed him.

A group of delegates is plotting to rewrite the rules with a "conscience clause" that would allow delegates not to vote for the candidate to whom they are bound as a result of state primary elections.

The change potentially would clear the way for delegates to deny Mr. Trump the nomination, despite his having won more than enough bound delegates in the primaries to win the nomination on the first ballot.

This plot dubbed, "dump Trump," is the latest in a series of ill-fated efforts within the GOP to derail Mr. Trump's run for the White House, including the #NeverTrump movement.

Mr. Ryan said his role at the convention has been reduced to a "ceremonial position" by Mr. Trump's decisive victory in the primary race.

Pressed on whether he would be comfortable with a rule change that potentially blocked Mr. Trump, the speaker said that is a question better directed at the delegates themselves or Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.

"My opinion is not relevant here. I'm not going to tell the delegates how to do their job because I am chairman of the convention," said Mr. Ryan.

This is so funny.  The Trumpkins are deluding themselves about Trump.  He is making NO EFFORT to reach out to these delegates, to talk to them, to convince them that he's a safe vote.

No, instead he ridicules them and says it's nothing.

Anyone who expects conservatives and Republicans to unite after the convention is delusional.  This election is lost.  Trump is not going to change and the numbers of those not voting for him will grow.

Yep.... there is no way he gets elected.   The only question is if he actually gets the nomination or not.   It does appear the ground work is being laid for a contested convention.
America needs God's forgiveness....... Even if Donald Trump doesn't think he does.

The ground work is being laid by short-sighted people to destroy the Republican party and ensure the destruction of America with another 4 years of Obama polices.

What is really happening however is Trump will win the Primary nomination and it will look like #nevertrump gave it its best effort but failed. Its called rope a dope to buy the compliance of the ones who cannot let go.
Trump is for America First.

The work is being done by the principled patriots who have spent years of their lives and personal resources to ensure that the Republican Party remains viable and its members are elected to city councils, to Congress, to the Presidency and everywhere in between.  They are the reason there is a Republican Party -- they tirelessly raise money, man the phone banks, knock on doors, write letters to editors, and vet candidates.  They are the reason that there are 31 GOP governors and 30 state legislatures where both houses are GOP controlled.

So dismiss them as short-sighted hijackers -- everyone can see it's your candidate that deserves that description.

You're assuming that no information comes out about him between now and the convention that will make it perfectly clear (even to his die hard supporters) why delegates are being freed to vote their conscience.

Hell, he may decide it's better to drop out before then.  He won't be the nominee.  Get your padded room ready.

The ground work has been laid by progressives who want to divide and conquer in order to get their woman in, in order to continue the policies of Obama and Co.  That is the very reason they had Trump enter the race to begin with.

I don't think any of them counted on Trump getting as far as he has, but it doesn't matter, because he's accomplishing their mission. He's bamboozled so many, who have fallen for his schtick and in doing so, he's done more damage to the Republican party, conservativsm, the GOP, etc, than any Democrat could wish for.    Divide and Conquer.

What is really happening, is Trump will either get sent packing at the convention or he'll lose big to Hillary in the general.  Either way, he'll end up pointing the finger and blaming everyone else, claiming it was stolen, it was rigged, it was someone elses fault (because the man can never admit it when he's the main problem) and he'll then be able to move on to what he really wants, and that's his own media conglomerate.  He's released from a job he didn't want, the Trump brand survives, he makes more money with another enterprise in his name, and the Clintons get what they wanted all along.  Its called rope a dope to get who they want into office via the uneducated, uninformed, ignorant voters who believe Trump is some savior.

The only wrench is what happens at the convention, at the grassroots level, that the Clinton and Progressive machine can't count on.  They could nominate someone that would beat Hillary.
