The fight will begin in the rules committee. It can change the rules before the convention begins.  You can expect a number of rules proposals from unbinding bound delegates to requiring a greater majority to achieve the nomination.  I expect Trump's people will be heavily in control of this committee, but it bears watching.

I think with each passing poll, as Trump sinks deeper and deeper, more and more people are becoming aware of what a catastrophe Trump will be for the GOP.
Not correct, The Rules committee can only propose rules to be voted on by all the Delegates. They have no power to change any rule on their own and there are not enough of them to get their proposed rules passed.

Why would all of these heavyweight Republicans be singing the same tune and sending a signal to the delegates to vote their conscience?  Do you think they're just bitter losers?  Do you think that all of the dirt on Trump is already out there?

Quote
‏Existing nomination rules — including those that bind delegates to vote on the first ballot according to the results of their state primaries and caucuses, as well as those governing nominating a candidate not already in the race — can all be changed, said Utah Republican National Committeewoman Enid Mickelsen.

Mickelsen, a vice chairwoman of the national Republican Party committee responsible for putting on the convention, said it’s the delegates, not the party or the candidates, who control the nominating process.

Quote
Ryan instructs Republicans to follow their "conscience" on Trump: In his interview for "Meet the Press" that will air on Sunday, House Speaker Paul Ryan essentially gave every Republican license to follow their conscience in whether or not to support Donald Trump.

Oh brother, here we go again with this "there aren't enough of them to get the rules passed" nonsense.  We have no idea who all the delegates are or which candidate they supported.  We do have a pretty good idea that Cruz, knowing how the convention worked, was working on lining up people to get themselves selected as delegates and also on to the various committees. Cruz has been working this angle since he knew he was running. But we don't know for sure to what extent he was successful with that.  I think this is the issue that Mechanicos put me on ignore over because I called him out on it.  I asked him how he knew there were not enough delegates on the rules and other convention delegates to get the proposed rules passed and his answer was paraphrasing "because Manafort has been working on it since May".  He cannot name who the delegates are and therefore he cannot know if there is or isn't enough support to get the rule "changes" in place.

Which....is exactly why he decided to run as a Republican.  He's the spoiler candidate.

He's the Ross Perot of 2016. Only I don't think he expected to win the nomination.

I think it will happen.  I don't think anybody in the GOP e or not is happy with Trump.  And they don't want to lose to Hillary.

I think there is a major message that needs to be sent to all of the GOP delegates:

A vote for Trump is a commitment to loosing the election!

Enid Mickelsen just named chair of GOP convention rules panel. Here's what she told Salt Lake Tribune two weeks ago.

I've seen tweets today where some are proposing a rule that states you can't be a candidate unless you've released your tax returns.

Do you mean "loosening"? I don't get it.

You mean RINOs, liberals, GOPe, democrats, progressives, socialists, dictators, etc?

All one and the same!

...hmm...don't want to lose to Hillary?  I find that questionable.  Trump's main objective was to ensure Hillary's win.  The GOPe didn't stand behind Cruz because he would have broken up the country club.  With Hillary things remain status quo.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.
