U.S. Postal Service dedicates stamp recognizing Islamic festival

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The U.S. Postal Service has dedicated a stamp recognizing Islamic Eids.

Eids are festivals important to the Muslim faith.

The stamp contains a phrase in Islamic calligraphy, which translates to “May your Eid be bountiful.”

The postal service says it decided to introduce this year’s stamp in Louisville because it was the birthplace of Muhammad Ali, who was Muslim.

“Today is a day of celebration, because what the U.S. Postal Service is doing, is they’re giving us the opportunity to educate the world about Islam, that Islam is a religion of peace, as Muhammad Ali said often,” said Donald Lassere, president and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center.

The two most important Eids will be celebrated on July 6 and Sept. 12 this year.

The postal service has been releasing stamps to commemorate the Islamic holidays since 2001.

Can any government agency more vividly demonstrate how fracking tone-deaf they are??  The bodies have not yet all been turned over to the families yet, and the Post Office pulls a stunt like this??

And people wonder why Donald Trump is so increasingly popular.

When looking for postage stamps, go to ebay.

2 weeks back, I was able to get 100 of these for less than face value... including shipping!

They arrived 2 days later.

Also, I was able to buy 250 of these for less than face value, also including shipping:

If they would only offer a Milton Friedman stamp (fat chance of THAT ever happening), then I'd be set.

If you put one on an envelope, doesn't that make it a suspicious package?
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Speaking of old stamps and past generation politicians....

Has anyone seen "All the Way" on HBO??  Bryan Cranston plays an astonishing LBJ, a role he played on Broadway before HBO made it into a movie.  There are a number of politicians portrayed with remarkable accuracy, Everett Dirkson & Hubert Humphrey among many, but Melissa Leo's role as Lady Bird is nothing less than outstanding.

Well worth watching this summer....

Why not? Because that would be imposing your religion upon some poor, unsuspecting, atheist snowflake who might be permanently scarred by being within 50 meters of such a stamp.

(Of course, if some Christian complains about an Islamic stamp, they'll be branded a hater and bigot for life and will be the subject of intense scrutiny from that moment until 50 years after their death)

I believe any package that does not have the Amazon.com logo on it is now deemed "suspicious".  Hand-addressed letters without 3rd Class Mail postage markings on the cover are suspect as well.

U.S. Postal Service dedicates stamp recognizing Islamic festival

First thing I thought of when I read this was, if this had been posted on "TOS" I would have had to post something like, "And you people have the nerve to criticize other countries like Britain, Canada, Germany and Sweden saying they are caving in to Islam."

But what I see on this forum is a free exchange of ideas, admitting when one is wrong (or one's country), discussion, not automatic confrontation, and some really informed opinion. I think I'm going to like it here.
Justin Trudeau and Barack Obama say "ISIL". The rest of the world says "ISIS". Hmmm ...
