The Everyday Linux User Jargon Buster
« on: June 15, 2016, 10:36:37 am »
 Introduction
I received a comment at the bottom of one of my articles which expressed bemusement about all of the acronyms and terms used within my reviews.

I am therefore writing this guide to explain as much of the jargon in my own words as possible.

What Is Linux?

What Is An Operating System?

What Is The Linux Kernel?

What Is A Linux Distribution?

What Is A Desktop Environment?

What Is A Display Manager?

What Is A Window Manager?

What Is A Panel?

What Is A Dock?

What Is A Network Manager?

What Is A File Manager?

What Is A Package Manager?

What Is The Terminal?

What Is The Super Key?

What Is A Bootloader?

What Is The BIOS?

What Is UEFI?

What Is An ISO?

What Are Partitions?

 Summary
I have tried to explain the above terms in the easiest way possible.

If you would like any other terms explained feel free to add them to the comments section and I will do my best to add them to this list.
