Bomb Targets Beirut Bank That Froze Hezbollah Accounts

The Blom Bank headquarters in central Beirut was hit on June 12. The bank complies with a U.S. law sanctioning banks that work with Hezbollah.

A bomb exploded outside the headquarters of the Lebanese Blom Bank in central Beirut on June 12. Although no group claimed responsibility, suspicion has fallen on the Iranian backed Shiite terrorist organization Hezbollah.

A 2015 American law imposed sanctions on Lebanese banks which provide financial services to Hezbollah. Blom Bank is one of those which agreed to comply. Blom Bank and others reportedly froze Hezbollah assets in response to the law.

Hezbollah previously threatened the bank verbally over implementation of the law.

"Politically it is clear that target was Blom Bank only" Lebanon's Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk said. Since only two people suffered injuries and the bank was targeted while it was closed, it is thought the attack was a warning rather than an attempt to commit mass murder.

At least the bank was closed.  I wonder how bad the injuries were?
