Aleppo

(TRUNEWS) Russia’s Foreign Ministry official spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters Friday that Turkey’s military advisers in Syria are commanding ISIS forces near Aleppo.

TASS reported Zakharova saying: “According to mass media reports, up to 2,000 Jihadists are taking part in the fighting. Journalists say Turkey’s military advisers are commanding them.” She added that Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists — an ISIS and al Qaeda affiliated group — are launching attacks from both the North and South of Aleppo, with the goal of surrounding the sectors under control of Assad’s forces.

Zakharova also said an intensive traffic of trucks with armed guards have been spotted in the Aleppo. “They are carrying weapons and ammunition in the north of provinces of Aleppo and Idlib from the side of the border [with Turkey],” she said. “This looks like another stab in the back of the Syrian army.”

Zakharova’s comments come 2 weeks after reports surfaced that Turkish military units had crossed the Syrian border and established positions North of Aleppo. TRUNEWS reported at the time that hundreds of Turkish soldiers had been spotted crossing into Syria at the Bab al-Salameh border-crossing, and had set a checkpoint near the city of Afrin, a predominately Kurdish city located 60 km Northwest of Aleppo province.

According to a Russian representative of the Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria frequent attacks and mortar shelling show that militants around Aleppo have no shortage of ammunition.

The Russian representative said: “Militants from the Jebhat al-Nusra terrorist group and the Ahrar al-Sham armed units continue attacking the positions of government troops and people’s militia in Sheikh Maqsood, a Kurdish populated neighborhood in Aleppo. The frequent attacks and mortar shelling show that terrorists have no shortage of ammunition and have a possibility to supply them with arms and ammunition.”

The subject of ISIS’s seemingly endless supply of munitions was addressed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh in Moscow Thursday.

Lavrov specifically stressed the necessity of stopping the flow of terrorists and weapons to Syria via Turkey.

Lavrov said:

“It is a very important issue to dissociate the Syrian opposition from terrorists to prevent the triumph of terrorists in Syria and to promote intra-Syrian political dialogue. Many months have passed since the UN Security Council approved decisions of the Syria Support Group, this is more than enough time for any armed formation to make its choice: join the regime of cessation of fire or not.  Along with the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, all those armed formations that have not joined the regime of cessation of hostilities, or joined it but do not observe it, should bear all responsibility. I hope that the United States, which agreed with that logic, will join us in practical actions to prevent the current situation from being used to strengthen the positions of terrorists on the ground.”

On Tuesday, Lavrov spoke by phone with his U.S. counterpart Secretary of State John Kerry on this very issue. According to a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov emphasized the need for Russia and the U.S. to coordinate their stances on combating ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations in Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also stated that Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Samih Shukri has spoken by phone and agreed on the need for the cessation of hostilities in Syria during the holy month of Ramadan, which began June 1st.

“Moscow and Cairo consider that a stable cessation of hostilities will pave the way for delivering the humanitarian aid and push dialogue process between the Syrian government and the opposition forwards,” Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.

Tuesday TRUNEWS reported that the Russians had moved a TU-124M ‘Bear bomber’ — capable of delivering a strategic nuclear payload — to their Khmeimim airbase (Latakia Air Base), in Northeast Syria. During the Thursday edition TRUNEWS host Rick Wiles outlined the clear provocations being made by NATO against Russia, noting the reports that British, French, Canadian and U.S. special forces were on the ground supporting ISIS and affiliated rebel organizations in the Battle for Aleppo.

Could these escalations in Syria become the catalyst for the beginning of a new World War? Listen to the June 10th edition of TRUNEWS for analysis of these latest developments and more.
