Belgium concern as WW2 Nazis 'get German pensions'

A Belgian minister has voiced concern that as many as 2,500 Belgian ex-Nazis are receiving German pensions.

Belgian survivors of Nazi persecution appealed to the government to stop the payments, and Pensions Minister Daniel Bacquelaine "shares their indignation", his spokeswoman told the BBC.

But Germany manages the payments and "we have no official figures" for the recipients, Geraldine Lamoureux added.

After the 1945 liberation, 57,000 Belgian collaborators were convicted.

Belgians were recruited into the German SS and Wehrmacht, and collaborators also helped the Nazis to send Jews and resistance fighters to concentration camps.

So, Germany is actually paying the pensions. Also of note, is that 2500 such folks are still receiving the pension within I'm sure a limited time span, most must be very old now.  Note, these sound like they are mainly Belgium collaborators who, the article makes clear, were given German citizenship.

Doesn't make sense until you realize that European politics have been this way for centuries.  The petty squabbles were far more important than the fact Napoleon or the Prussians the Ottomans or the Poles were about to kick all their collective asses.  These same geniuses marched with spears against muskets, with muskets against Mini ball rifles, with rifles against cannon, and on horseback against the Blitzkrieg. 

It will never end.  Things calm down in certain areas once enough of the extremists on both sides kill one another off.  But after a few decades when the population starts to recover, those ancient family feuds rear their ugly heads and off they go again. 

It is not here in force, yet.  That's the good part, but it is on the way.

Well, the thread ain't on Muslims, I guess we can't post anything on Russia, England, France, Belgium since they have such large Muslim populations.

And a lot of people can retort as well, that we aren't far behind and we could  end up with a make up just like California for every state in the Union, deep blue. So, we can act self-righteous about that.

Seems kind of disrespectful to the victims of the Nazis to score political points criticizing Muslims.

To a point, yes.  But Belgium, Russian, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Crimea, and all the other countries all over Europe have known nothing but war on their soil for centuries.  We here have suffered horrendous attacks but nobody alive today remembers open warfare on our soil to the degree they do all over Europe. 

Russian Czars used to give wedding gifts of thousands of souls, literally giving human serfs as chattels.  Napoleon was noteworthy for being the first guy to bring all of the disparate groups together into a true France, but study the cost along the way.  Hitler was by far not the only tyrannical dictator to slaughter thousands of people.  Hirohito saw far more Chinese and other ethnic Asians slaughtered in his name than Hitler did in his.  And Hirohito not only survived the war, but was never held accountable for Japanese atrocities during the war, and continued his rein until his death in 1989.

Belgium's concerns are large bubbles in small beer.  The Muslim hoard that has taken over their country should be a warning, but of course we have al-Obammy bringing in terrorists as fast as he can.
