Top Trump aide: Campaign won't be outspent by Clinton
By Jessie Hellmann
Top Donald Trump aide Paul Manafort on Sunday shot down claims that the campaign is having problems with fundraising, saying they won't be outspent by rival Hillary Clinton.
"Donald Trump spent considerably less money than most of the candidates running against him and did very well," Manafort said on ABC's "This Week."
"He beat them all, so money is a component of an election and in a national race is important, but it certainly is not the only one."
Manafort's response comes amid reports that Republicans are concerned about a shortfall in fundraising efforts. Trump has also backtracked on his fundraising goal of $1 billion, saying now there is "no reason" to raise that much.
But Manafort said fundraisers and donors are feeling "energetic" about what is to come.
"I don't think he's going to be outspent. I think we're going to raise the money. Again, we had a meeting in New York with a number of fundraisers. We had a very good session. They left there energized."
"Money is coming in. We're not worried about fundraising."
