House Republicans will outline a national security plan Thursday that pledges to secure the borders, prevent cyber attacks and prevail against the Islamic State, while indicting the Obama administration’s performance on each front.
The 25-page blueprint does not include likely GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s plans to build a wall along the U.S. southern border — and make Mexico pay for it — or bar Muslin entrants to the U.S. until the federal government gets a better handle on terrorism.
Instead, the plan calls for a mix of “high fencing,” border agents and technological surveillance to thwart illegal immigrants, plus better systems to track and detain those who do make it in.
“Make no mistake: The borders are not secure, and the threats along them are growing more dynamic by the day,” it says.
