Trump rages at veterans money reports

Donald Trump punched back at the media late Monday night after a series of reports called into question just how much he raised for veterans at an event he put on in Des Moines, Iowa, instead of participating in the Jan. 28 debate on Fox News.

At the time, the Manhattan businessman's campaign said a fundraising event in honor of veterans had netted $5 million, in addition to $1 million kicked in by the candidate himself. But nearly four months later, only $3.1 million has been accounted for, according to The Washington Post's report last Friday attempting to locate the missing millions.

Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told the Post that the event raised $4.5 million, blaming some of Trump's deep-pocketed donors for backing out of writing big checks. But Lewandowski then told CNN on the same day as the Post report's publication that the $4.5 million figure was incorrect, remarking that he did not "know the exact number." The campaign last Friday did not identify any of the organizations that have received the funds, though in March it did release a list of 27 organizations that it said had received $2.9 million.

In a series of tweets Monday evening, Trump claimed the figure to be "between 5 & 6 million dollars, including 1million dollars from me," ripping the "dishonest and disgusting media" for producing "nothing but bad publicity" on the matter.

Nonsense. Either the WaPo or Trump has this wrong. It is a very specific charge with a very simple solution. If the WaPo did lie, Trump ought to jump on this like a duck on a junebug.

A group of veterans went to Donald Trump’s headquarters in midtown Manhattan on Monday to demand an apology and answers after the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s campaign admitted a veterans fundraiser did not raise as much money as he had initially claimed.

Alexander McCoy, who said he was a Marine Corps veteran who helped organize the protest, described Trump’s handling of the January fundraiser as “unacceptable.”

“We’re here as a group of veterans to reject Donald Trump,” McCoy said. “It is unacceptable that he made a commitment and failed to live up to it. He said he raised $6 million for veterans and claimed to have done so, and yet there has been no accountability for that money.”

He continued: “He has failed to show where a lot of that money went. And he failed to raise as much as he claimed to have raised. And it is unacceptable for Donald Trump to try to take advantage of the goodwill that American voters feel for our men and women in uniform to try and get votes while failing to live up to his own commitments.”

Yep a nothing hit piece. There was No indication any of them were on the approved list of Veterans charities and not all who use the name Charity are legit. See The Clinton Foundation for example. So you got a bunch not affiliated with the vetted veterans charities complaining they did not get their free stuff. Maybe they should get with a vetted charity instead.

How about to confirm that Trump has a clue about telling the truth and speaking forthrightly and backing up his claim  on this matter with the figures that he ALONE has. He could have had this done and laid to rest in the time he took to tweet about  it.

Yes?

He seems to surround himself with sycophants more than with competence.  He's fooled a lot of his supporters with this "I'll hire the best" claptrap.  And while he has been spending most of his life reading Penthouse and living the live of Playboy, many of the folks he's fooling spend their time reading Trump's favorite magazine National Enquirer.

It's what Trump said.  He's said he'll release his tax returns...eventually.  And he'll come clean on the veteran's fund...eventually.  My prediction is that he will do neither.

I think our Vets deserve better treatment than this. Anybody want to bet how long it takes to for the groups to actually get the money? Until that day I contend he justed used them as photo-op pawns.
