A new Rasmussen Report survey released Wednesday finds voters consider presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump to be a stronger military leader than Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.
The survey shows:
33 percent feel more safe with Trump in charge;
20 percent prefer Clinton;
54 percent would feel less safe with Trump as commander-in-chief;
52 percent would feel less safe with Clinton as president.
Trump apparently generated strong emotions one way or the other, as only 9 percent said having Trump in charge of the military would make no difference in their feeling of safety, while 26 percent said that about Clinton.
In a survey just last week of the US military, Trump was a clear winner over Clinton 54 to 25 percent, The Military Times reports. The poll also showed that if military personnel had a choice between just those candidates, 21 percent would not vote for anyone. The survey included 951 active-duty servicemen, reservists, and National Guardsmen.
The Rasmussen survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted on May 11-12. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points
