Swedish police: Communication mast was sabotaged

A 300 meter high mast east of Borås suddenly collapsed during Sunday evening.

On Monday afternoon police in Borås came out and said with absolute certainty:

- We are one hundred percent certain that this is sabotage, said the preliminary lead investigator, Jan Johansson, to Aftonbladet.

The operator of the large stations, which are operated by the state-owned company Teracom, yesterday decided to tighten surveillance of the 53 remaining masts in the country.

- We have increased security at our major stations, says communications director Åsa Ragnar.

The company was surprised by the attack, and there were no threats, says Åsa Ragnar.

Images from the site show that the perpetrators have been able to exploit an earlier wide-open security door.

- Everything was systematically unscrewed and greased. It must have required substantial tools as there were many large bolts, and they were tight.

Currently, police have no suspects. But Aftonbladet reported yesterday that the police are working on three scenarios: it could be a question of an advanced prank, some form of owner rights, or an international plan.

The international plan, the preliminary lead investigator, Jan Johansson, believes is connected to the mast's importance for the Swedish defense.
