Music of Memorable Dances
« on: May 14, 2016, 09:42:43 pm »
Just reminiscing today, and I realized that although I'm not much of a dancer, there are some dances that were especially memorable for me, for one reason or another. Here is, in no particular order, some of the music to which I have memorably danced with a friend, friends, or just myself...

Yeah, quite a varied set.  I'm interested in hearing if others have memorable associations like this.

Not much of a dancer.  In college I needed a quick credit so I took Ballroom Dancing.   Stepped on the instructers toe and broke it.  Got a D. Go figure?   In the 80's the "Pogo" was a Falsh in the pan dance at places like the Slimelight in Atlanta.  We danced...er hopped to it with this song by the Cars!

The Flamingos - wow I learned how to dance to this song.  I had forgotten!  In Pasadena, Texas we did the Hully Gully to "The Wanderer" in the early 60's

I don't dance.

But in my youth, I did figure skate. Did it for years, wasn't terrible at it. Then we moved back to the UK and ice became something of a novelty. I was coming home on leave and had a stop over in Bradford for some reason. There is a rink there, I was bored, didn't feel much like drinking, so I went skating. Most of it came back pretty quickly, so I'm just enjoying myself, half listening to the music while some of the muscle memories were rising to the surface. This song came on while I was leaning on the boards, catching my breath. The girl next to me just smiled, grabbed my hand, and off we went.
No idea who she was, at all. I still remember her smile at the end of the song though.

This song was an enigma and caused much confusion in my teenage years.  To hold the slow dance or to break away and fast dance?

After all these years who knows!
