Former Vice President Dan Quayle said he will support Donald Trump for president because he's the nominee of the Republican Party.
Quayle noted that no one expected Trump to win, possibly including Trump himself, but he managed to triumph in a hard-fought primary.
"Look, I was the Republican vice president, and I've been a Republican all my life. I'm going to support the nominee," Quayle told NBC.
"And I predict that most people in my position or people within the Republican Party for a long time, will rally around the nominee," he said. "I fully expect that Paul Ryan will eventually support Donald Trump publicly."
Quayle also argued that Trump should pick Ohio Sen. Rob Portman as his vice president. Quayle described Portman as a "man of stature, substance."
