A former Louisiana police captain released a stirring video criticizing the federal government while calling on Americans to help rebuild the nation.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel on Tuesday, former St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office captain Clay Higgins encouraged Americans to “set aside your differences, stand together as one nation under God and as one people beneath the glory of one flag, to stand as a nation reborn.”
Higgins offered a list of issues that threaten the U.S. including unsecured borders, anti-police violence and “the elected and appointed elitist few who have seized power in Washington and squandered our wealth, mortgaged our children’s futures and betrayed our trust.”
Higgins said he has been approached about running for political office since resigning his position and produced the latest video to test the waters with voters, KPLC reported.

“We produced this video for the purpose of sort of measuring the response of the people of Acadiana, Louisiana, and America,” said Higgins, who is pleased with the positive feedback on the video.
“Politicians today, they live very sheltered lives,” he told KPLC. “Like they breed them in laboratory experiments or something, and they grow up in a Petri dish with gated communities and private schools. They are almost cultured to become politicians, and I’m certainly not that guy.”
Higgins is currently a reserve Lafayette deputy marshal, having resigned his former position in February following the release of a video on his work tracking down alleged members of a gang called the “Gremlins.”
