Your Absolute Must Read of the Night [Original title]
« on: April 29, 2016, 06:06:32 pm »
Hate the title - but pretty well sums up why I have  been leery of Trump from the get-go

http://www.redstate.com/leon_h_wolf/2016/04/28/absolute-must-read-night/

Really, the only reason I am writing this post is to call your attention to this excellent Twitter rant by former RedState Contributor (from back in the prehistoric days) Jay Cost. Jay hits on the key thing that many Trump supporters seem not to realize about the #NeverTrump movement – that it really has very little to do with ideology.

We are willing to accept some ideological flexibility: we accepted it from McCain, Romney, Bush, Dole, and so on. The problem is not that Donald Trump is insufficiently conservative for us (although we would definitely prefer if he were more conservative). The problem is that he is manifestly unfit for the office as a human being.

It’s his personality traits – traits that are visible at a first, lazy glance – that make us recoil in horror at the idea of Donald Trump actually occupying the office of the Presidency. It’s his laziness when it comes to learning about the details of the job he wants to hold. It’s his pathological insecurity and vanity (which are two sides of the same coin) which would make him a dangerously erratic commander-in-chief of the armed forces. It’s his repeated egregious failures in character assessment which would make him a terrible person to put in charge of staffing the executive department. It’s his demonstrated willingness to abuse power for the sake of his own petty vengeances – which is horrifying to contemplate for someone who desires the office of the Presidency.

Before we get to the fact that Trump has no ideological core (and what core he does have is mostly liberal), we cannot get past the fact that if you spend five minutes listening to him, it becomes really, really obvious that he belongs nowhere near the office. Kind of the same way that you can tell after about five minutes of listening to Gary Busey that he would be a terrible CEO of a multinational corporation, or that Billy Crystal would be a terrible center for the San Antonio Spurs. You don’t have to actually see either of them attempting those tasks to know that if they tried, it would result in instantaneous disaster.

And it’s also why #NeverTrump folks hold in such contempt most Trump voters – in particular those who occupy positions of public trust: it’s because, in the case of Trump, it’s really obvious. I’ll be honest with you, I had serious questions about John McCain’s fitness for office after watching his disastrous behavior during the financial meltdown crisis (culminating in his fake canceling of a Presidential debate, which he took back in about 24 hours). But reasonable people could believe, if they squinted really hard, that McCain could do it. Hell, there was a time when we were willing to believe (thanks to careful handling) that Sarah Palin could handle the job, too.

There’s just no such room for reasonable disagreement where Trump is concerned. It doesn’t take a world champion poker player or some savant at judging people to realize that the guy cannot do the job without causing serious damage to the country. It’s not even a close call. And everyone who doesn’t see that – and, more importantly, state it loud and clear – deserves to have their judgment questioned from now until all eternity.

Well stated, Mr. Cost.

Absolutely, and amen.

But it is equally evident that none of this matters to his supporters.

The essential nature of Mr. Trump's character, as clearly revealed over time and through countless examples, is of no consequence to those who promote him.

This is the  best summation of the REAL TRUMP I have read yet.  He his on every one of my thoughts.  I was for Trump in the beginning (shame on me, I know), BUT it only took me about 1 month to realize and see the man for who he really is.

I am so ashamed that I ever was taken in, but I wanted to win, I knew Cruz was the BETTER man, but is succumbed to the group think for a spell.  I took a look at his rallies all those people following this hypnotist saying the same thing over and over to the CHEERs and hoorays of the people. That is what jarred the senses back into me, for I searched the internet to find the same type of following as Hitler had in 1938-39, the crowd was the same and Hitler has the same loud screaming rhetoric as Trump has, then remembered the same type of crowds adoring Obama, THAT IS VERY SCARY.  All the same as those that chose Barabbas, go along with the  group think mentality, no longer have a mind of their own, don't dare to think different.

Actually it is known that Trump did keep a book on Hitler by his bedside, so apparently he studied the speech patterns of Hitler and how he stirred up emotions of hate........that hate is what we now see with all the Trump supporters.  They hate because Trump told them to, so here is how they worship......
 :da man:

It is time for Trump to drop out for the good of the country, as 60% of Voter DO Not want him, that is a fact and will not change, and most likely 1/4 of his 40% supporters will cross back and vote Hillary.

... we cannot get past the fact that if you spend five minutes listening to him, it becomes really, really obvious that he belongs nowhere near the office ...

If Trump is an 18 year old sailor, and he spews 10% of the crap he does now, he ends up going to the chain locker with two NCO's, and getting an "attitude adjustment".  (Note: "Chain locker" justice doesn't denote violence, but the threat was certainly there to make the young kid's life very physically uncomfortable.)  Bottom line:  You just don't talk to people, or about people, the way Trump does.  There's a price to be paid, in the real world.  Trump has never learned that.

(Of course, that was the "old Navy".  The advantage was that a lot of petty little shiite got handled below the commissioned officer grade, where NCO's and Chiefs could train and have a moral influence on the young snots, and most of them eventually grew into honorable men.  Today, of course, the young Division Officer must become a sea lawyer, taking every little thing to Captain's Mast, which cuts the legs out of the system of discipline and education that should be run by experienced enlisted men.)

Trump is one of those who didn't, wouldn't, and couldn't, hack the life of a Navy (or Marine Corps) enlisted man.  He hasn't the honor of the average junior enlisted man,  for whom he seeks to become their CINC.

That nails it, as far as the why he is as he is. It called to mind how Hannity refers to his own upbringing and the the jobs he had - dishwashing, construction. I've never heard him ask Trump to share about his early days  and all I have heard from Trump is riding around with his father.

I have said it before and I will keep on saying it. Trump is Romney with Billions in stead of Millions. I used to say he was on both sides of every issue, but the fact is that is on every side of every issue. Has walked back or modified virtually every statement he has made.
His moral compass always points to Trump. Just as Hillary's always points to her.
Initially I said I could vote for him if he was the nominee, then it became if Cruz was his VP, but now there is no chance in Hell I would vote for him.
If he is the nominee I will vote for the local candidates and write in Cruz.

Not expecting any of the Trump supporters to read it. Much like an internet porn addict would ignore the story in a magazine about how to break free of the ugly snare of the addiction. I have yet to hear or read one person confess that they use to like Trump, but they have come to there senses, and now see him as the fraud he is.

There have been several psychiatrists that have determined that Trump suffers from a narcissistic personality disorder.  That disorder is evident in the way he projects himself in his speeches and everyday behavior.  He is a narcissist to the extent the he poses a real danger to this country.  To recap from the article:

..."the problem is that (Trump) he is manifestly unfit for the office as a human being...

I have to agree and that is why I will NOT and CANNOT vote Trump.  I see him worse and more dangerous than Hillary.

I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Of course, that was the "old Navy".

The age when ships were made of wood and men were made of iron has long past.  Todays young'ns are precious little snowflakes who have no moral compass except what they learn watching the Kardashians and celebrity apprentice.  They are looking for Bernie and the Donald to "fix things" when only freedom, hard work, and faith in God and our Constitution will restore America.

Welcome to the forum OldSalt, I know of what you speak. I have an impossible time visualizing Trump being a sailor, being it an enlisted man coming up through the ranks, or a young line officer. In any case you have to submit to somebody, relinquishing control you thought you had in your teens. Trump will humble himself to nobody. A visit to the chain locker would have been in order, and it did happen, and worse.

Now my Chief was "old navy". When we would ask him how long  he was in the navy he would respond, with he lost count, but it really did rain 40 days and 40 nights.  He had a sleeve full of service stripes, and they were not gold like most chiefs, meaning he was a badass, getting himself in lots of trouble over the years.

Thanks for those links - snip a summation...

The position of President of the United States is one that requires great empathy, a certain amount of humility, the ability to preserve relationships, and a willingness to establish new ones. These are all qualities that the narcissist lacks, and with their absence comes danger. Do we really want to put all Americans, and even the entire world, at great risk by giving a narcissist the nuclear code? Donald Trump is very much like Gollum from Lord of the Rings, and the presidency is his “one ring to rule them all.” In this case we do not have the option of destroying the ring. The best we can strive for is keeping it out of the possession of those who cannot resist abusing its power.

And that's fine. I recognize the mindset. (It's on full display at the place from which I have recently departed.)

Yours is the first such comment I have seen in my short time here, so I will simply observe that it is the weakest of weak sauce to shoot at the messenger and refuse to debate and refute the message that he / it brings.

I couldn't possibly agree with him any more!

How would Cruz prevent it?
