S.C. Sheriff Warns Men Using Women’s Restroom: ‘I’m Gonna Whip Your Tail If You Go in There With My Wife’

As the battle rages in North Carolina around the new state law requiring people to use public restrooms that fit their biological sex, Chuck Wright, sheriff of Spartanburg County, S.C., reacted to his state’s proposed law [1] that mirrors [2] the one now in place in N.C.

“I’m going to honest with you,” Wright said [3] in a video posted by Dimsdale Debate, part of the Premium News Network , and reported on by local television station WYFF4 on Tuesday.

“I don’t even know why there’s an issue about which bathroom to use, because if you are a guy and you go into bathroom with my wife, I’m gonna make the news -- I know [there are] three cameras rolling -- I’m gonna whip your tail if you go in there with my wife while she’s trying to use the bathroom, or my granddaughter,” said Wright, who was speaking at a meeting of the Greenville-Spartanburg Republican Women.

“That is bologna,” he said.

Wright said he doesn’t dislike gay people and included himself as an example of how people make “bad life choices.” He said he has a cousin who is a homosexual.

“So, you know, I don’t really understand why there’s an issue in any legislation, or state senators or whatever gotta make that stuff,” Wright said. “I mean, the men’s room are for the men.

“The girl’s room are for the girls,” Wright said. “We were taught the symbol when we were little and we couldn’t read.

“If you’re wearing a dress you’re supposed to be a chick,” Wright said.

Like the North Carolina bill, the South Carolina bill, S. 1203, allows for exception:

“Nothing in this section prohibits public agencies from providing accommodations such as single occupancy bathrooms or changing facilities or controlled use of faculty facilities upon a person's request due to special circumstances. In no event shall such accommodation result in the public agency's allowing a person to use a multiple occupancy bathroom or changing facility as designated in subsection (A) for a sex other than the person's biological sex.”

The South Carolina bill has been referred to committee.
