Abraham Lincoln Won In A Contested Convention, FYI

Ever since Colorado, Donald Trump has been going around bashing the “crooked” and “rigged” system. (Sheesh, if you want to see a rigged system, look over at the Democrat’s side.)

It’s not. Colorado changed the rules last year. The party in each state gets to decide how it distributes its delegates. Plus, let’s be real. Trump has the upper hand right now. Especially in the next state, New York.

I have no doubts that Trump will win in New York. Big. Like, I’m talking over 50 percent, which is exactly what he needs to take the majority of the state’s delegates. While a win in New York will put him back on the narrow path to 1,237, it’s no guarantee. This election will probably go all the way until June 7, when California votes. California could determine the nominee. (Try not to let that idea scare you too much.) But if the next few states go Cruz’s way and he can  keep Trump from scoring a major victory in California, we’ll be on our way to an open convention.

That would work in Cruz’s favor. He’s expected to do very well on the second ballot vote. Cruz could actually win this thing in an open convention scenario.....

Often,  looking back at history, contested conventions result in better nominees. 1912 being the exception when Roosevelt stomped off and created the Progressive Party (Bull Moose), basically handing the nomination to Wilson.

Which is exactly what I expect Trump and his side do come convention time.

As time goes by, I seem to be losing respect for Mr. Lincoln.

I'm almost wishing that he'd been defeated by George McClellan in the election of 1864...
