Nearly three-quarters of married women have a negative view of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, a new poll shows.
According to the latest Bloomberg Politics/Purple Strategies survey of women voters, 70 percent of married women who plan to vote in November are dissatisfied with the controversial candidate.
Just under 60 percent of women voters believe the billionaire's comments about women are "offensive and embarrassing" and disqualify him from being a serious candidate. Another 58 percent of women said the billionaire is "setting a new low in his campaign's negativity" that has discouraged them from "politics and voting."
"The way Trump looks among married women puts Republicans in a deficit in a key group that they won before," Purple Strategies pollster Doug Usher told Bloomberg News. "Trump cannot win unless these numbers change."
But the survey also shows that the dislike for Trump among married women largely reflects their party affiliation. Among married Republican women, 52 percent said they have a positive impression of Trump. That's just a bit lower than Ted Cruz's 57 percent positive rating, and John Kasich's 55 percent.
The survey comes two weeks after Trump suggested that women who receive abortions should be subject to "some form of punishment." The comment attracted outrage from pro-life and pro-choice women.
In the same poll, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Kasich had the highest favorability ratings among married women likely to vote in the general election.
The Bloomberg Politics/Purple Strategies survey of 603 women voters likely to vote in the general election and 513 Republican primary voters was conducted April 5-10. Results contain a margin of error plus or minus 4 percent.
