Natalija Rumjantseva, who lives next to the police station, told the TV channel Life News that she heard both explosions and shooting this morning.
She says the police are now in place around the station, and that children are evacuated from a kindergarten and a school that is close by.
Governor Vladimir Vladimirov in Stavropol said, according to to news agency TASS, that he did not rule out that what happened in Novoselitskij may be a diversion, and that one must be prepared for attacks elsewhere in the area.
He says that enhanced security at kindergartens, schools and hospitals in the region is now introduced.
