Suicide bombers attacked a police station in the Stavropol region of southern Russia, reports the news agency Interfax. According to Russian media, no other than the perpetrators have been affected.

News agencies reported that there were three suicide bombers who attacked.

The suicide bombers were killed in the attack, but no other people were wounded or killed, Reuters reported, citing the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

A source informs to RIA Novosti that one could hear five explosions, while the AFP news agency reports of at least two explosions.

The suicide bombers blew themselves up near a police station in the village Novoselitskij in the Stavropol region.

According to the state-owned Russian news agency Sputnik, police in Stavropol has confirmed the attack on the police station.

Several Russian news agencies, however, reports that two of the three attackers were shot by police when they tried to enter the grounds of the police station, while the third managed to trigger a bomb outside the station.

Natalija Rumjantseva, who lives next to the police station, told the TV channel Life News that she heard both explosions and shooting this morning.

She says the police are now in place around the station, and that children are evacuated from a kindergarten and a school that is close by.

Governor Vladimir Vladimirov in Stavropol said, according to to news agency TASS, that he did not rule out that what happened in Novoselitskij may be a diversion, and that one must be prepared for attacks elsewhere in the area.

He says that enhanced security at kindergartens, schools and hospitals in the region is now introduced.
