For those who don't want a trip to the beach to involve flashing their body, retail giant House of Fraser today unveiled their latest range of burkinis.

The new season's launch comes hot on the heels of Marks and Spencer's new full-body swimwear range, which was introduced on their website earlier this month.

House of Fraser's legging and tunic sets cover the body from the neck to the ankles - and also come with a separate hijab head covering.

Retailing at £49.99, the styles are designed by Islamic sportswear company, Shorso, which specialises modest clothing and swimwear aimed at Muslim women.

A message to shoppers on the House of Fraser says: 'Ensure your work out is as stylish as it is comfortable.'

'Whether you're swimming, running or simply wanting to lounge in beachwear....find the perfect finishing touch to your wardrobe!'

Unlike previous Shorso styles stocked by House of Fraser, which have come with in understated colours with a black stripe across the chest, the new season's designs are more outlandish.

One comes with multi-coloured paisley across the shoulders and down the sides, while another comes in a bright cross-cross design.

In all, there are six new designs in the range, compared with M&S, who stock just two styles.

A spokesman for the UK based company said: 'It is approaching a year since we launched with House of Fraser online in April and it's been fantastic journey to watch the modest fashion industry develop in order to cater to a diverse customer base.

'Our modest sportswear is designed to encourage women to feel both comfortable and stylish when participating in sports and provides extra sun protection.
The burkinis available on the House of Fraser website come with a detachable hijab head covering

'We offer both a casual and sportswear range at House of Fraser and intend to grow our range accordingly'.

Describing their burkini, which sells at £49.50, 49p less then its House of Fraser rival, M&S said the style 'covers the whole body with the exception of the face, hands and feet, without compromising on style'.

Burkinis have been available from M&S stores abroad but have recently launched on the UK website.

The new burkini ranges are the latest indication that British fashion is embracing multiculturalism.

H&M recently featured a model wearing a stylish hijab in one of their advertising campaign

The modest swimwear has also been embraced by women wanting to protect their skin from the sun.

In 2011, celebrity chef Nigella Lawson made headlines when she was pictured wearing a burkini on Australia’s Bondi Beach.

She explained at the time: ‘I can see it looks odd but it is incredibly comfortable and there’s no sun block and you’re not getting a tan.'

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Sounds like the old bathing suits they used to wear in the 1800s, covered top to bottom.  In Europe.
