The playboy prince was greeted at a special “purity ceremony” in Kathmandu, where the five young women gave him gifts of flowers and placed a garland around this neck.
Virgins represent purity and innocence in Nepalese culture, while the number of women present was also significant, as five is seen as being very lucky.
Prince Harry, who was infamously photographed playing strip billiards in a Las Vegas hotel in 2012, accepted their symbolic gifts with a wide smile, before sharing a laugh with other representatives at the ceremony.
Eighteen-year-old Alisha Awale, one of the five virgins, said: “I”ve seen him before on television, I was really excited about meeting him and was wondering what he would be like.
“We freaked out when he was in front of us but it was a really happy moment.”
She added: “We welcome him with open hearts to Nepal and hope he enjoys his visit.”
The unusual meeting took place in Durbar Square in the heart of the city, where the prince took time to take in the damage caused by last April”s devastating earthquake, which claimed almost 9,000 lives.
