GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Monday huddled with supporters and other Washington, D.C., Republicans, including former Speaker Newt Gingrich and a handful of House lawmakers.

Most attendees at the gathering at Jones Day law firm, just blocks from the Capitol, were backbencher lawmakers who have already endorsed Trump. They include GOP Reps. Tom Marino (Pa.), Duncan Hunter (Calif.) and Scott DesJarlais (Tenn.).

"The theme of the meeting was party unity, which we certainly need. So I'm anxious to see what the strategy is on that," DesJarlais told reporters before heading into the meeting.

Gingrich, a failed presidential candidate in 2012, walked into the meeting with his wife, Callista, swarmed by a pack of reporters and TV cameramen. But the former Speaker had no comment.

If nothing else, the confab gives Trump the opportunity to thank his few Capitol Hill supporters and generate some headlines on a slow Monday in the nation's capital.

Trump is expected to hold a press conference later Monday afternoon at his new hotel at the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue. He'll address the annual AIPAC gathering Monday evening.

So he huddled with his handful of supporters.  When is he going to huddle with those who oppose him and try to bring them aboard?
