Cruz Settles in for Long Haul to Nomination
Thursday, March 17, 2016 01:41 PM

By: Joe Crowe

Ted Cruz has a long road ahead of him to get to the GOP presidential nomination, and he faces several unexpected roadblocks.

On New Year's Eve, Cruz told his supporters he was beginning a "90-day sprint" to the nomination. That did not happen, and now Cruz is buckling down to face Donald Trump and John Kasich after their primary wins.

Cruz's campaign strategist Jason Johnson told The Texas Tribune that a majority of Republican voters are not fans of Trump "and I don't see that changing."

However, before Cruz can wave the standard of the anti-Trump forces, he may have to face unlikely foes in his fellow GOP senators.

Politico reports that Cruz changed his mind about attending a meeting with key conservative senators, and now that group must contend with backing Cruz, who calls them a part of the "Washington cartel." Those senators and Cruz "must at least reach a cease-fire."

As for Kasich, his win in Ohio and Trump's win in Florida was "sort of the worst of all worlds" for Cruz, Republican strategist Russ Schiefer told The Washington Post.

Both Cruz and Kasich now appears to be pretending the other is not in the race, according to the New York Daily News.

They each support different factions of Republican voters, Kasich the moderates and Cruz the tea party members who have not yet backed Trump.

CNN reports that Cruz next looks to convention and caucus states such as Utah, where on-the-ground campaigning produces rewards.

If he is nominee the left will slam him about where he was born, thus giving hil the win.

Nice try.  Not going to happen; especially since courts have recently ruled in his favor and have allowed him to be on the ballot.  Case closed.

No it isn't if he is our nominee. Hil will find judges to reverse that.

One more thing.....we have obama who has come out and said he would do everything he can to keep the WH. They have used the IRS, EPA, DOJ,  just to name a few to target all political enemies. If you think they won't take him out....finding a judges to reverse it will be child's play for them.

No she won't.  She is convinced she can beat Trump or Cruz, and she's probably right.

Quite to the contrary, if he becomes the nominee, the "Cruz citizenship issue" is a door that is only beginning to open.

Do you think the democrats are going to be stopped by a few low-end court decisions regarding this?

They'll fight in every state of the union, and keep pushing the issue "upwards"...

You have a right to your opinion.  It is a non-issue.  Cruz is a natural born citizen.  Good grief!
