Fourteen voters on Fort Myers Beach were inadvertently given a presidential primary ballot despite being registered as independents.
Sharon Harrington confirmed the voters should only have voted for the council races and referendums, but a poll worker mistakenly gave them a ballot that contained the presidential races.
The votes will be counted as there is no way to identify those ballots.Harrington said there are new poll workers this year and more training is needed.
NBC2 was alerted to the situation when a voter said he received an extra ballot for the presidential race. He didn't vote twice, and alerted the poll worker to the mistake.
This happened at the St. Peter Lutheran Church precinct.
NBC2 is following this story and will have more as information develops.
