Police: Illegal Alien Murdered North Carolina Woman

March 12, 2016

GREENSBORO, NC – A Greensboro man was arrested by U.S. marshals in Texas last month in a 2015 homicide
of a Greensboro woman. He was extradited to Greensboro Tuesday.

Jorge Luis Mejia, 25, of 724 Creek Ridge Road is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Constance
Peters, according to an arrest warrant.

Mejia was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 26, said Susan Danielsen,
police spokeswoman.

He is accused of killing the 58-year-old woman at her mobile home at 724 Creek Ridge Road Lot 35 on Oct. 8.
Peters lived at the trailer by herself, Danielsen said.

Guilford County EMS and police responded to a medical alarm at her trailer about 6:55 a.m. that day, Danielsen said.
When they arrived, the mobile home was locked. When they got inside, they found Peters dead.

She declined to elaborate on what type of alarm device Peters had that contacted emergency officials, or how the
door was locked.

It was not immediately clear how Peters died, which is why police did not immediately announce her homicide, Danielsen said.
“Some things indicated homicide, other things indicated another manner of death,” she said.

Danielsen would not say what other manner of death investigators might have been considering.

A recently finalized autopsy report stated Peters died from sharp force injuries to the neck area, and investigators
determined Peters was killed, Danielsen said.

A motive for the homicide has not been disclosed.

“Once we had a suspect developed, he was very mobile and not a citizen of this country. Our focus was on finding and
apprehending him before he fled this country,” Danielsen said.

She said she was uncertain if Mejia, who is a native of Honduras, actually had plans to flee the U.S. Danielsen said
he had no connection to Texas.

Mejia is currently being held in Guilford County jail without bail.
