While it’s not entirely clear if he was speaking out of envy or disgust, Rev. Al Sharpton has gone on the record denouncing Donald Trump’s inflammatory campaign rhetoric.

This coming from a man who has made a career out of inflammatory rhetoric.

Speaking at his weekly National Action Network rally in Harlem, the shakedown artist sounded the warning that America is facing a “national crisis,” the New York Daily News reported.

“This is the most reckless, violent, despicable election season that any of us have seen in our lifetime,” Sharpton said. “We are in the midst of a national crisis.”

The Republican presidential front-runner has dismissed the idea that his words are responsible for the violent protests in Chicago and St. Louis.

“I don’t use hate speech,” Trump told Fox News on Friday. “There’s tremendous division in our country. I’ve seen it, I’m watching it, I’ve been witness to it, and something has to be done.”

The irony is not lost in Sharpton bemoaning the idea that there is a double standard at play.

“If I had said any of the things Trump has been saying, they would have ran me out of the race,” he said. “He says things for which he does not have to take responsibility.”
