Ronald Reagan's son endorses John Kasich

Ohio Gov. John Kasich picked up the endorsement of Michael Reagan, the son of former President Ronald Reagan, the Republican candidate's campaign announced Saturday.

"You see many Republicans claiming the label of 'Reagan conservative' but not many whose leadership truly embodies my father's principles and spirit," Reagan said in a statement. "Gov. John Kasich is a noteworthy exception."

Reagan said he was proud to endorse Kasich "to continue my father's great legacy." He is an author, former radio host, and president of the Reagan Legacy Foundation.

Like each of the Republican candidates running for president, Kasich frequently refers to former President Reagan on the campaign trail, and he reminds crowds that they knew each other — telling stories about working for Reagan's presidential campaign or working with him while Kasich served in Congress.

"There is no leader I could hope to emulate more than President Ronald Reagan," Kasich said in a statement. "No one understands his impact on our country more than his son Michael, so to receive this endorsement is a tremendous honor for me."

Endorsements don't mean much.  Christie sure hasn't helped Trump at all.

Agreed. I cannot see how such endorsements have any real impact. Schwarzenegger also endorsed Kasich today, for whatever it's worth.

Yeah, but anybody who's anyone is endorsing Trump, and those endorsements clearly indicate that he's the favorite and the rest of us should all fall in line and support Trump.

Nice to see the Gipper's son endorse Kasich as the candidate who best reflects Reagan's "principles and spirit".

Win or lose, I'm proud to support John Kasich.   With malice toward none, with charity for all.   Guess that's not the bully-boy way,  but there are those of us who knew a different time,  when the revolution was fresh and the first wave of GOP movement Congressmen was swept in as the nation awoke to Reagan's optimism.

Kasich never forgot.   And a few of us still remember and think it's the better way.

Of course.  But the question of the value of endorsements is another area of political schizophrenia:  this endorsement is dismissed as valueless, but when the candidate who shall not be named gets an endorsement, the endorsement is utterly valuable.

Did this endorsement come after his adoptive mother died? If it did, it would have been incredibly poor taste to use his own mother's passing to make himself relevant again (which, quite frankly, he hasn't been in a decade now).

Not that Michael Reagan has a huge following or influence on many voters, but a Kasich endorsement seems to be a waste of an endorsement. Kasich right now seems to be just a tool to keep Trump from winning Ohio.

The article says the endorsement came Saturday.  Nancy passed away on Sunday.

So expansion of Govt' and explaining it away by saying "Jesus told me to" is Reagan Conservatism?

I can understand why he endorsed Kasich.  I think Kasich embodies the spirit of the Reagan Era.  It was a time of reaching across the aisle to make a deal - you could still do that back then, at least they would reach back sometimes.  That's also the part of Kasich that doesn't appeal to me.  Times are different now.
