...according to YOUR definition.

We're standing here in our night clothes watching our house (country) burn down.  A 3 alarm tragedy.

We've got somebody standing ready with a water pumper and equipment and you won't let him do his work because he may be PRO-CHOICE.

Niiiice.

Donald Trump is, and always has been, a VERY liberal democrat!  Can't vote for that and still call yourself a conservative!

LOL!

Maybe a sports analogy will work with you, Earl.

Our nation just got the "2-minute warning"....and you want to pull out Tom Brady and insert Tim Tebow, based upon his strong Conservative principles.    :thud:

NOTHING is going to work if it involves trying to make the case that Donald Trump is conservative because it simply is not true!

The salient question is, are Trump's campaign positions conservative?

Border and national security: yes.

Jobs and economic security: yes.

Trade policy: yes.

Foreign policy: yes.

He looks like a conservative to these tired old eyes.

That's the silver lining - Trumpism will die in November.  We will suffer greivously for our foolishness, but the cancer will be excised.

Aren't the primaries and the general different contexts?  In the primaries the point is (one would have thought) to pick the best foot for the party to put forward; the general is about beating the other side with whatever you've got.  Voting for Trump in the primaries is reprehensible.  Voting for him in a general against Clinton is not.

I can see Hilarious Rodent Clinton winning in November . . . and being hit with a Republican Congress in the bargain. Now, if
only such a Republican Congress will remember what the last couple of Republican Congresses forgot, which forgetfulness
is one major reason (among a few) why we've come to this in the first place.

Looming Disaster: GOP donors will not give to a  "Trump RNC".  Even Donald can't fund the GOP and a general election campaign.

Trade policy?  No sane conservative supports tariffs.  They destroy jobs and are a direct tax on the poor and middle class.

Foreign policy?  Remaining neutral toward Israel is conservative? Not to these tired old eyes.

I'd love to see the RNC or Congressional leaders announce that the party will support any Congressional candidates that want to run against Trumpism.   That's sound strategy in many areas of the country,  but mostly I want to see created the conditions where Trump bolts and runs as an independent.

This is an existential moment for the GOP - are we the party of limited government and individual liberty, or are we an ethnic nationalist party?   That's the root of why so many of us proclaim #NeverTrump - we feel profoundly uncomfortable with a message that we find indistinguishable from racism.  Moreover,  Trumpism would indeed bring about the Uniparty -  a Trump-GOP would be no different than the Democrats in seeking to preserve and expand the entitlement state.

There may a place for an American version of UKIP or the National Front - but not in the GOP.

So when I recognize a running as a Republican I'm supposed to just swallow hard and vote for him anyway?

In the primaries, definitely not.  In the general, that is something best left to each individual's conscience.  Every voter has to do the calculus to decide whether to vote and who to vote for.

As much as I dislike Trump, I often wonder what it would be like for him to tear into people like Hillary or even Bernie?

It might be all we got at this point, and I can't imagine either Kasich, Rubio, or even Cruz being tough enough. The GOP will be fighting not just liberals but also the media. We might need a brawler like Trump.
