Do scientific polls count, because Trump's kicking your guy's ass in every single one of them.

Regards,

A non-Trumpkin who is laughing at the desperation and anger of the TDS Brigade as you all slowly realize it's all over for your brand of GOP.

Count me in that group.

Mark Davis had an excellent take on Trump's candidacy this morning. If Trump only does one quarter of what he promises, he will be immeasurably better than Sanders or Clinton, because you know what they'll do, and it's awful.

Remember the last few elections where the establishment managed to get lousy candidates nominated, then told us to suck it up and vote for the nominee? I think the shoe is going to be on the other foot this time.

And to the left of all three on eminent domain, abortion, entitlements, deficits, trade, spending, and using the brute force of the government against businesses.

Keep tilting at those windmills.  You're not making a bit of difference, but it is very amusing to witness.  You and a few others have actually turned me off completely to the idea of ever sending another penny or supporting any GOPe party or candidate with the non-stop insults of "Trumpkins" on this board.

So I suppose you have made a difference.  Congrats.

Touché, but left out Israel. Don't forget Israel.   Trump was to the left of Hillary, Sanders, and Kerry with his answer.

The problem with conservatism is that it hasn't rose to have a downfall.  To fall, you actually had to rise up.  Look at your government.  Look at its trajectory since World War 2.  Conservatism has never succeeded, never been the ruling philosophy of government since FDR.  You had Reagan, the one conservative president (if you don't count Kennedy). He managed to moderate temporarily the trajectory towards today's soft socialism - for a brief time.  But that has been over for more than 30 years.  Conservatism exists only in a relatively few people's minds. It is in practice nowhere.  It is now, today, the emptiest of empty slogans. A near religious mantra to be uttered at election time like a visit to the confessional.

Conservatism cannot fall.  It never rose in the first case. It is an empty platitude.

Speaking truth to orthodoxy. Gutsy of you on a "conservative" site...high five!

Reagan was a man, and served in an era which, which have become a "conservative"  mythology not unlike Camelot.

Based on his entire political life he could also be called a liberal and or democrat, much like some do with Trump now.

Your assessment is a great starting place for accepting reality, and deciding what is practical, realistic, sellable in todays American society.

A continuing commitment to (mostly) free market capitalism,
(readily admitting we do not have it now and won't go backwards to it)

Smaller, not larger government (has not been done in modern times)

Lower, not higher taxes (Kennedy, Reagan)

Fewer, not more services (reduce dependency, Gingrich/Clinton)

Greater military strength, but fewer wars (Reagan)

Wars that settle matters, not go on forever (Eisenhower)

Social issues belong in families and churches. Quit using schools to indoctrinate kids.

I like how you phrase your list - I would add a long-term (or longer-term, more accurately) solution to border issues.  I think smaller/larger government, fewer/more services and eliminating social issues from schools (the left relies heavily on this and has tremendous support for it from those who still use public schools as most whites have long since fled to private schools) are the most difficult tasks here. Very large government with more not fewer services has an overwhelmingly large constituency...we would likely have to consider some chipping around the edges as success.

But this that you layout here is realistic and reasonable given the nature of our society and our government today.  Anything beyond this - such as the flat tax or fair tax - is just inhaling the magic dust deeply.

On top of all this news, we almost missed the birth of Donald Trump's fifth wife.

Donald Trump was the resounding winner of Thursday night's Republican presidential debate in Houston, according to two online surveys.

According to a Drudge Report survey that has attracted more than 120,000 votes, 63.8 percent said Trump won the debate, followed Ted Cruz, at 17.9 percent, Marco Rubio, at 12.8 percent, John Kasich, at 3.6 percent, and Ben Carson, at 2 percent.

A Time magazine online poll of 17,000 people found the billionaire businessman taking 71 percent, followed by Rubio, at 18 percent, Kasich, at 6 percent, Cruz, at 4 percent, and Carson, at 2 percent.

Trump has mopped up in most of the post-debate online polling this cycle.

The surveys aren’t scientific but can gauge online enthusiasm for the candidates.

I hope she has a birth certificate.

They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn
