KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The death toll in a series of shootings across Kalamazoo County has risen to 7.

Michigan State Police confirmed to Newschannel 3 just after 2:30 a.m., that a fifth victim reported shot at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Texas Township has died.

The situation began around 6 p.m., at Meadows Townhomes, off G Avenue, near Comstock.

A woman was shot several times outside her home, and the suspect took off, eventually crashing his vehicle.

He has since been identified as 45-year-old Jason Dalton.

Hours later, around 10:15 p.m., two people--a father and son--were shot and killed in at Seelye Ford Kia, in Kalamazoo.

Around 15 minutes later, police say Dalton opened fire at the Cracker Barrel, killing five people, before again fleeing the scene.

In the course of police investigation, officers spoke to an eyewitness from the Seelye shooting, and combined that information with surveillance photos from the dealership, to develop a description of the suspect.

At around 12:40 a.m., investigators located a vehicle matching the description and initiated a traffic stop.

Police identified the suspect at that traffic stop, and he was brought into custody without incident.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has announced a press conference for 7 a.m. Sunday, to update the public as to this incident.

They do emphasize that there is no danger to the public at this time.

We're told that Dalton does not have a criminal record, and he is expected to be arraigned sometime Monday.

Deadly Kalamazoo shootings eyed as random spree
CBS News

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - A gunman who authorities believe chose victims at random shot people in the parking lots of a western Michigan apartment complex, car dealership and restaurant, killing at least seven during a nearly five-hour rampage, including a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

Forty-five-year-old Jason Dalton of Kalamazoo County was arrested early Sunday in downtown Kalamazoo following a massive manhunt after the shootings began early Saturday evening, said Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Jeff Hadley.

Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas described a terrifying rampage that began about 6 p.m. outside the apartment complex in Richland Township on the eastern edge of the Kalamazoo County, where a woman was shot multiple times and seriously wounded.

CBS affiliate WWMT in Kalamazoo reports the suspect then fled the scene and crashed his vehicle, before fleeing on foot.

A little more than four hours later and 15 miles away, a father and son were fatally shot while looking at cars at the Seelye Ford Kia dealership. Fifteen minutes after that, five people, including the teenager, were gunned down in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant along Interstate 94, Matyas said.

Matyas said earlier that authorities did not believe the shootings were targeted at specific people, describing them as "our worst case scenario."

"These are random murders," he said.

The suspect was arrested about 12:40 a.m., authorities said. The suspect was sitting in a vehicle at a traffic light that police had matched to the shootings. Matyas said the man did not resist when approached by law enforcement officers, and that weapons were found in his vehicle.

"The threat to the public is over," Matyas said early Sunday.

Kalamazoo, with a population of about 75,000, is about 160 miles west of Detroit. It is home to Western Michigan University and the headquarters of popular craft beer maker Bell's Brewery. The city also is known for the anonymously funded Kalamazoo Promise program, which has paid college tuition of students who graduate from Kalamazoo Public Schools for more than a decade.

"This is your worst nightmare, where you have somebody just driving around, randomly killing people," Matyas told WWMT. "There's usually a rhyme or reason to it. In this particular case, we're not finding that. Hopefully when we interview the individual he'll disclose that to us."
Almost incredibly, no apparent Muslim aspect to this attack.

You can bet ValJar already has her pick. And the dead in Kalamazoo are irrelevant to The Won.

It was just reported that the shooter was a driver for Uber and may have even picked up a fare between victims.
