Bad News: Millennials, America's Largest Generation, Prefer Socialism Over Capitalism

When socialist Bernie Sanders beat Democrat Hillary Clinton in a landslide Tuesday in New Hampshire, he crushed her among young voters by a whopping 83 percent.

Tuesday night in New Hampshire, 83% of voters aged 18-29 chose Sanders, according to exit polls. And those voters were a full one-fifth of the electorate.

Sander's message of "income inequality" (Hillary has one too, but her Wall Street ties and personal wealth make it transparent) is popular with young people drowning in student loan debt (thanks to liberals proclaiming college is for everyone and by promoting the purchase of worthless degrees without the prospect of future employment) and those who have sympathy for occupy wall street. The sympathy also comes after 40 years of liberal indoctrination in public education, starting at kindergarten and ending in PhD programs, imposed by Marxists posing as teachers.

Sanders sat down with Late Show host Stephen Colbert earlier this week, which is widely viewed by young people, to talk about his New Hampshire victory.

Although Sanders excites young people, the reason they do is sobering. According to analysis in the Washington Post, a majority of millennials now view socialism as preferable to capitalism. Keep in mind the millennial generation is 83 million people strong and the largest generation ever produced. Millennials outnumber Baby Boomers by nearly 10 million.

Quote
In a recent YouGov survey, respondents were asked whether they had a “favorable or unfavorable opinion” of socialism and of capitalism. Below are the results of their answers, broken down by various demographic groups.

As you can see, overall, 52 percent expressed a favorable view of capitalism, compared with 29 percent for socialism. Republicans, those in families earning more than $100,000, and people age 65-plus had an especially high regard for capitalism compared with socialism, but respondents in almost every demographic category demonstrated the same preference to some degree.

There were just two exceptions to this pattern: Democrats rated socialism and capitalism equally positively (both at 42 percent favorability). And respondents younger than 30 were the only group that rated socialism more favorably than capitalism (43 percent vs. 32 percent, respectively).

The other problem here is millennials have no idea what socialism actually is or what living under socialism feels like. Over to you, Greg Gutfeld:

Free-market conservatives have a lot of work to do, not just on the campaign trail, but in the education system to reverse this trend.

I am intentionally being a broken record.

Let me know when a conservative candidate really sells free market capitalism. I have been making this challenge both here and at FR for a week, with only one taker, at FR who agreed with me.

The silence is so very revealing. We debate among ourselves who is the most conservative, etc.

We completely ignore the bigger challenge: Is there a market for presumably what we are selling? How to sell it? Who can sell it?

I expect to lose the Presidency and the Senate. I presume the Senator from Alberta is THE Gold Standard conservative, and these young people don't really want him or his pitch.

It has been so long since conservatives could effectively sell their product, it is almost a lost concept entirely.

To many many young people, conservatism is a joke like Duggar Family Values.

Sure they do! That's what they've been indoctrinated with in our public schools for their entire lives!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Apparently their parents are not capable of influencing their own children? Mine sure did.

And, it's all free stuff!  Who could disagree with that?

Not anymore, with social media and "education" having far more influence over their children's opinions than their own parents. They trust their friends over their parents, the majority of whom are divorced or never even married, which wasn't true in your day.

On the bright side, Millennials that I run into are generally too lazy and stupid to vote or become activists for their beliefs.

I think we might find they don't prefer a representative form of government either.

Parents?  Seemingly a rarity these days to even have what we think of as "parents" in the house.

We keep getting in arguments here over who is a conservative and who is a liberal and how we should back the candidate of limited government.  None of us alive today has ever seen what a limited government is...there hasn't been limited government anywhere in the world in what, 200 years now?  Voting for limited government is like sitting in a pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin appear!

Not true for my brother's two younger kids. They recently graduated from college in four and three years respectively.

The young man took four years for his business degree, and is now being working in the family's business.

The girl took only three years to graduate with a degree in biology, and enters medical school this summer.

They both have dating lives, and use social media sparingly but they use it.

His older daughter (one previous marriage) just finished ten years in the Air Force, before leaving to become a mother with her husband, also a vet.

No visible tattoos, no profanity at least within earshot of us elders. Oh yeah, no big push for religion, either.

They all treat me with the utmost respect. BTW they moved on purpose to Murrieta Calif. to raise those two younger ones. Murrieta is the 2nd safest city over 100,000 in the country after 1st place Irvine Calif. (and they manage that, even with all the Hispanics and Asians in the midst)

In spite of the BS you read on the idiot conservative media, Calif. has a whole lot going for it.

Well when you always lived with mom and dad and have to follow their rules, you become accustomed to totalitarianism.
