Three US servicemen, kidnapped with Iraqi by Shiite militia in Baghdad
DEBKAfile January 17, 2016, 11:10 PM (IDT)

Various Baghdad sources reported Sunday night that the three unidentified Americans and their Iraqi interpreter, who were kidnapped in the Iraqi capital, are in the hands of a pro-Iranian Shiite militia, after being abducted in the Shiite Dora district of southern Baghdad which is ruled by that militia. DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources add if this claim is confirmed, it would represent a serious turn of events for US-Iranian relations, just a day after the lifting of sanctions and the release of three American prisoners by Iran.

The US State Department said it knew that the three Americans had been kidnapped and was working with the Iraqi government to recover them. A large group of American military personnel are positioned in Baghdad to advise the Iraqi army on tactics against ISIS.

Well, first, it is Debka so one must keep a raised eyebrow until it is confirmed elsewhere. And no, it is not possible for the U.S. Pro-Iranian position to change under this administration (or under a Hillary administration, should that occur). There is nothing they can do to change the current trajectory. All Obama had to do to cover the Iranian nuclear program, remove the sanctions and remove the pictures of American military held at gunpoint was to get a simple prisoner exchange thrown in as part of the sordid deal. That's all it took, and now the coverage is ONLY about that. Obama takes superhero victory laps now.
