Paramedics said they were treating one person with a leg injury and a woman who went into labor. It was unclear if any others were hurt.

Channel 9 spoke with a football coach who was inside the mall when the shots rang out. He said he was inside the mall and heard pops that sounded like gunfire.

He then saw a stampede of people and heard screaming before he was ushered into a back room of a store in the mall.

CMPD: One dead in shooting at Northlake Mall

One person was killed Thursday afternoon in an officer-involved shooting at Northlake Mall in north Charlotte, authorities said.

It was not immediately clear who fired the fatal shot.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said early information indicates an argument started inside the mall around 2 p.m. Thursday between two groups of people. Officers who were working off-duty at the mall arrived on the scene.

At least one person was shot during the altercation, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.

No officers were hurt, according to CMPD.

Northlake is located on the northwest corner of Interstate 77 and W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Witnesses said the shooting occurred in Journeys, a shoe store on the lower level of the mall near Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Co-workers Natasha Columbus and Nicole Kirkpatrick were in the Locker Room sporting goods store on the lower level of the mall when the shots rang out. “Pow, pow, pow, pow,” eight or nine in all, Kirkpatrick said.

Columbus said she bolted to the back of the store. Kirkpatrick went to the front, toward the sound of gunfire, and looked through a store window.

Fifteen to 20 feet away in the mall commons, she says, she saw a body lying prone on the polished floor.

After the gunshots, an automatic gate came down and blocked the Locker Room patrons from leaving the store for 30 minutes or more.

At the AMC Northlake movie theater, about 100 people who had just finished watching a 12:45 p.m. screening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” were surprised when an employee came in and announced there had been a shooting and that the mall was on lockdown.

Out in the mall, hundreds of shoppers pushed and shoved to leave the area.

Zindy Cruz, 19, was in the food court eating Taco Bell with her brother and father when they heard the shots being fired. She and her family ducked under their table until things calmed down. Then they got up and walked towards where they were told the shots were fired.

From the second floor, they could see into Journeys where she said she saw a man lying on the floor. She said she was pretty sure he was dead.

Charlotte Mall Shooter Already Charged w/Shooting 12-Year-Old Boy Last Year
The rapper had a mixtape titled “Convicted Felon With a Weapon”

The hypocrisy of #BlackLivesMatter is that their advocacy on behalf of criminals costs black lives. Let's look at the Charlotte mall shooter.

An armed man was shot and killed by an off-duty officer at Northlake Mall on Christmas Eve, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

As last-minute shoppers were picking out their final gifts, witnesses say they heard several shots fired around 2:10 p.m. Thursday coming from the lower-level of the mall. The suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Daquan Antonio Westbrook, was shot near the entrance of the Journey's shoe store. That's in the Dick's Sporting Goods side of the mall.

CMPD says Thomas Ferguson, an off-duty officer, arrived on scene after hearing shots fired inside the mall. Witnesses tell WBTV the shooting was in retaliation to a shooting that happened last week involving the deceased suspect's brother.

But it doesn't look like this was Daquan's first brush with the law. Why just last year, he was charged with shooting a 12-year-old boy.

Charlotte Mecklenburg police charged Daquan Antonio Westbrook, 17, Friday in the 2013 shooting of a 12-year-old boy, according to a news release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

On July 07, 2013, officers responded to a shooting on North Pine Street where they found a 12-year-old boy who was shot in the leg. He was then taken to the hospital.

Westbrook was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of discharging a firearm into occupied property and damage to property.

So why was this fine upstanding victim of the school-to-prison genocidal complex walking around, instead of being in prison?

Daquan Antonio Westbrook had the usual record of drug offenses that makes libertarians and #BlackLivesMatter supporters tighten up in outrage. And he graduated from that to greater offenses. Now he's dead. And his death will no doubt spur more #BlackLivesMatter protests. More t-shirts. More outraged shrieks of "WE JUST WANT ANSWERS FOR DAQUAN" from deranged obese social justice grads.

But the answer is pretty obvious. It was there all along.

Police identified the gunman as Daquan Antonio Westbrook, an 18-year-old rapper known as “Donkey Cartel” from North Charlotte.

The rapper had a mixtape titled “Convicted Felon With a Weapon” in April and is known for his trap song “Can’t Be Touched.”

Looks like he could be.
