RNC officials meet team Trump to discuss general election
By Gabby Morrongiello (@gabriellahope_) • 12/11/15 11:04 AM

A group of Republican National Committee senior staffers met with Donald Trump's presidential campaign Wednesday to discuss a plan of action should the current Republican front-runner win the party's nomination.

The meeting, which took place in New York City, has since been confirmed by an RNC source to the Washington Examiner.

According to an initial report by NBC News, an RNC official claimed it is "standard and common" to meet with campaigns during the presidential primary season to discuss the committee's general election strategy. Meetings with other campaigns have reportedly taken place, but the same RNC official declined to name which ones.

"That's the beauty of the committee — [we] can talk directly with the campaigns and be open about what our efforts are to prepare for the eventual nominee," the RNC staffer was quoted as saying.

Earlier this week, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus condemned Trump's proposal to bar Muslims from entering the U.S., saying, "We need to aggressively take on radical Islamic terrorism but not at the expense of our American values."

Trump's poll numbers have continued to climb, despite widespread speculation that the backlash to his proposal could be enough to sink his candidacy. Trump currently sits at No. 2 on the Washington Examiner's presidential power rankings.

A WBUR poll released Friday, with respondents surveyed both before and after Trump debuted his Muslim ban, found the self-funded billionaire leading the GOP field in New Hampshire by his widest margin yet.

Trump's campaign could not be reached for comment.

I'm guessing the RNC will be talking to the top five candidates about the general election, not just Trump.

Absolutely, this is when the lawyers have to start working with the candidates for primary ballot access. A lot of talking with all of the candidates is going on right now.

There's only 3 top stories about RNC meeting with candidates or their campaign representatives on Google, none are about routine meetings to discuss order of business. Both CNN and Washington Post are stories covering only the possibility of a brokered convention.
