Politics ain't beanbag--and sometimes I hate it to the nth degree.

But it's necessary to stay involved. Otherwise, the rascals will steal us blind.

What?  What do you mean, stay involved?  Are you aware of the assaults on this site?  I'm sorry.  Maybe I'm losing my mind.

I like myst and the other folks here that I have talked with the last 6 years.

I don't see an assault, I see it's just the silly season in full swing. I've seen it before, I'll see it again.

Heck, I'm guessing I was probably a pretty big jerk myself in the months leading up to the '12 election. Just ask massadvj.

Look, I'm going to soldier on because I get important news and discussion here. I'm not going anywhere.

Sweetly played DC.  I'm glad to see you keeping your sense of humor.  I've got mad love for Oceander but my sides hurt from laughing so hard.

We have all gotten angry that the world is not what we want it to be.  We have all gotten frustrated that the posters we respect and admire have suddenly become bitter morons over the issue of Trump.

I've tried to roll with it and keep my humor, (Clearly DC is doing the same- big ups DC) but I know I have failed many times.  I have posted vile, disrespectful, and bitter comments to people who I know are not the problem with America.  Unfortunately we all care so much about this country, that it is easier to believe that the posters who disagree with us are clearly "THEM."

The thing is there isn't a "bad" person on this forum...even the two I have on ignore.  We are all patriotic Americans with heartfelt opinions on how to solve our current problems...except EC (the Limey Bastard!)

Hang in their kids!  This stuff will get sorted out in the next few months and then we can all join together in our hatred of Hitlery and the rats.

Thank you for saying so.

If it turns out I'm wrong, and Trump wins the nomination I'll have some consolation in being happy for you, even if I can't be happy for the GOP.

My guy never wins anyways,  in 1996 I was rooting for Kemp, in 2000 it was Forbes, in 2008 it was Fred Thompson, in 2012 it was Newt.  One of us deserves to pick a winner this time and but my top 2 (Perry and Walker) have already dropped out.

These are weird times, and you are a weird ally.

(We actually seem to share a lot of American culture in common...so not that weird)

I'm glad I can bounce ideas off you, without fear that you will become offended, or conversely that you will sugar coat your response, out of fear you will offend me.

In short, I am very happy to call you my friend.

Kudos, once.

You'd be interested to know that in their time I too liked Kemp, Forbes, Thompson and Newt (sounds like a law firm), though my politics have changed over the years and two of those names I would not support for president today. I'll leave it at that.

Always keep 'em guessing.

Donald Trump owns "the little guy." We listen, and when someone attacks Donald Trump, he's attacking "we" the little guy. And we notice that kind of thing.

Trump doesn't give a damn about "the little guy" except as a voting bloc.  He's stomped on more little people (as outlined in this article) than most realize.

Plus, you never hear Trump talk about "the little guy."

Trump employs far more "little guys" than the rest of the Dem and GOP candidates combined.
Trump has created a cult and looks more and more like Hitler every day.

Free Republic is beginning to seem like the kinder, more gentle alternative. Less name calling, provided you hold opinions and post within their narrow lanes.

Wow, I don't know which FR you've been reading lately, but surely not the one we all know and love!

Donald Trump has accomplished what even Obama could not: he's got us at each others' throats. That is what happens when people who are entirely too intelligent not to know better choose to give in to reflexive emotion.

Reasonable people may disagree about a host of things. Principles are what matter. Now and always.

Are we conservatives or Progressives?

Conservatives seek objective truth, no matter where it may lead; they respect individual expression and frame their beliefs in terms of what is true or false and what is of value, as opposed to what is ephemeral, transitory, and satisfactory to the senses. Progressives most often attack not arguments but the person who makes them for violating sacred ideological belief, regardless of either truth or an honest effort to discern it.

Accordingly, I am taking a time out from this forum to consider my participation in it.

I have loved it here, and have for five years now. No opus, this. Just a time to breathe.

They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Andy, this is a fairly of us rugged individualistic conservative types - "we aren't getting along, so I'll just leave".  I would like to suggest that at this critical juncture in our history, we deny that impulse and stay together, even if it means duking it out (figuratively, of course).

LOL!  Yeah....I was having a little too much 'fun' with Oceander the other night.  Wish I could remember how to reduce the size of the graphics.  They lose their effect when they're too large.

As do I. That's the thing... We all have the same concerns. We too often argue over what type of washers to use with the nuts and bolts. Meanwhile, the Left blissfully goes about plotting the next step of unbolting all of it.

We desperately need to get our shit together... using a little humor along the way.

Because there's an essential difference between republican/conservatives and democrat/socialists. One group generally puts principles over pragmatism. The other group has no principles to speak of. Do I need to point out which group is the former and which, the latter?
