U.S. Consulate In Turkey Under ‘Imminent Threat’

Via Clarion Project:

The United States issued a security warning to American citizens in Turkey on December 5, after discovering an “imminent security threat” to its consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) wrote on its website: “Due to information about an imminent security threat against the US Consulate compound, the US Consulate General Istanbul advises all US citizens to avoid the US Consulate today.”

OSAC also told American citizens in Turkey “to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster your personal security.”

The warning followed previous bombing attacks in Turkey, including a pipe bomb that exploded earlier in the week on a highway in Istanbul and a bomb that killed more than 100 demonstrators at a peace rally in Ankara in October.

A previous assault on the consulate by two women in August left the assailants dead.
