Restaurant owner offers 25% discount to concealed carry customers; his explanation is AWESOME

Papa RouxAn Indianapolis restaurant owner has decided to offer a 25 percent discount to concealed carry permit holders following a robbery at his establishment.

Art Bouvier’s Papa Roux cajun restaurant was robbed Saturday for the first time in its 8-year history, but once was enough for the angry proprietor.

“I don’t want Papa Roux to turn into the O.K. Corral,” he told The Indianapolis Star. “But I don’t want to be an easy target.”

Just hours after the robbery, Bouvier posted a message on his Facebook page, offering the discount.

A strong proponent of the Second Amendment, Bouvier said he has never made his views a business issue. But, he wrote,“If thugs are going to come in and threaten OUR extended family with guns, you’d better believe I will use every trick I know to protect (our family).

“We’re not saying, ‘Show us your gun.’ But if you’re a legal and stable carrier of a (handgun license), I’m going to reward that,” he said. “To me, it’s common sense. And until further notice, you’ll get 25 percent off your bill.”

Bouvier told the Star he was happy with how his staff handled the robbery, noting that customers didn’t even know what was going on.

“I’ve told my employees that money is replaceable, your lives are not,” he said. “Everyone is a little shaken up today; my manager can’t shake the feeling of helplessness, but I don’t want her to fear this happening again.”

Some longtime customers are unhappy with the offer, the Star reported, which disappointed Bouvier but left him more perplexed about their choice.

“A few loyal customers have said they’ll be avoiding Papa Roux because of my stance, and that’s a little disheartening,” he said. “It’s a shame that some people feel they need to stay away. They’ll go out to eat with the possibility that a criminal will bring a gun in, but they’ll stay away if they think customers might be carrying. That’s weird to me.”
