Scientists announces the discovery of a new species of giant tortoise in the Galapagos Islands off Ecuador through genetic testing

The new species of tortoise on Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, Ecuador. The research differentiated the new species from a larger population of about 2,000 tortoises living about 10 km away on the western part of the island that belong to the species Chelonoidis porteri.
