In 1995, Bill Clinton began a sexual relationship with a then-22 year old White House intern named Monica Lewinsky. Sordid details of that affair became a matter of public record a few years later. Among those details was the reaction of the President’s longtime wife and political partner, Hillary Clinton. Later stories by administration officials told of Hillary’s rage within the confines of the Private Residence of the White House.Subsequent tellings of that tale indicate it wasn’t what Bill Clinton did that so angered Mrs. Clinton though, but the fact that he was caught and the threat that getting caught posed to their joint effort political machine. Dalliances with younger operatives/interns/political hangers-is said to have been nothing new for the Clintons – including Hillary. Therein we find the long-whispered about relationship between Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin, a relationship that began at the very same time Bill Clinton began his own involvement with Monika Lewinsky. Hillary and Huma have been inseparable for nearly a quarter century and yet, remarkably, Huma Abedin remains a name the vast majority of Americans have never heard of. She is the Muslim daughter of an Indian father and a Pakistani mother. She was primarily raised in Saudi Arabia until returning to the United States to attend college. It was that background and her ties to the Clinton administration that gave her the position as assistant editor for the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs in 1998.By that time, Huma and Hillary Clinton had become inseparable. The two spent far more time together than did Hillary and Bill and by 2000, Huma was officially designated Hillary’s “personal aide and adviser.” This designation likely raised at least a few eyebrows among the political elite given Huma was just twenty-four years old at the time – a decidedly young and inexperienced age to be allotted the title of personal adviser to a then-fifty-three year old, Hillary Clinton.What Hillary provided Huma in the way of access to the corridors of East Coast power and social standing is clear. What Huma provided Hillary is far less clear, though rumors have long followed the two women regarding their unusually close and intimate dynamic.During Clinton’s time as a New York Senator, and then during the hectic days of the 2008 presidential campaign, Huma never left Hillary’s side. She rarely dated, seemingly devoted entirely to her role as Hillary Clinton’s shadow.When Mrs. Clinton failed to win the Democrat nomination in 2008, it was Huma who directly oversaw Hillary’s transition to private life. The then-32 year old Huma was given a high-compensation position at the Clinton Foundation as well as initiated a private consulting firm which was said to be little more than a link between Huma’s relationship to Mrs. Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, and interested donors wanting to utilize the access Huma could provide them to the Clinton Machine – for a price.Interestingly, this seeming conflict-of-interest scenario continued even as Huma followed Hillary to the Obama State Department as Mrs. Clinton’s Personal Adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff. Everywhere Hillary Clinton went throughout the world as Secretary of State, Huma Abadin was there as well. By this time, the two women had never left each other’s side for thirteen years.Once whispered rumors were quickly turning to shouts. Obama staffers would openly joke about the Hillary-Huma relationship as did various State Department officials. The name “Huma Clinton” became a particular favorite as the two women were largely considered to be a single, functioning unit.It is suggested that to quell those rumors, a marriage to a potential Democrat up-and-comer in the form of Congressman Anthony Weiner was quickly arranged.
