I'm gonna hold my fire on this. I had high hopes for Ryan as Romney's pick for VP so I'll wait to see how he performs as speaker before making a judgment.

I'm willing to give Ryan a chance. One strong quality he possesses is his knowledge of budget issues, his "wonkiness."

With three issues of vital importance to get a handle on, 1) radical Islam, 2) illegal aliens, and 3) national debt, being on top of one out of three ain't bad.

Paul Ryan is going to be the House Speaker.  No matter what Laura Ingraham or Mark Levin or Rush jump up and down about.

The Freedom Caucus support Ryan cuz they know that, if they don't, they own the chaos that ensues.

And if there's one thing I've observed about the hair-on-fire conservatives, is that they don't accept responsibility for ANYTHING.

The sausage must be made. Sausage making is not pretty.

Those without the stomach for watching sausage making, had best not watch.

Only the naïve will expect to get real sausage leaving out the nasty parts.

We just done saw some sausage gettin made.

It's nice to see the crybaby caucus beginning to evince some desire to start growing up.

Of course.  He's laughing over the Pavlovian response his remarks elicited.

What difference does it make who replaces the Speaker.
Except for the whole replacement part the plan to oust Boehner worked perfectly.
Sure it took 3 years and in the end Boehner decided to quit rather than put up with their tantrums, but there is no reason that real conservatives can't just keep ousting Speakers until the rats win back the House.

Except for the fact that Ryan is even more pro-amnesty than Boehner, this is a terrific victory.

You make it sound like they should be ashamed of not understanding the consequences of their actions.

Haters gonna hate.

Compromise implies that both sides give.  Since when do dems give?

And, secondly, there are some things one should not compromise on.

I'd love to see Reagan descend from Heaven and run for a 3rd term.
Gohmert would only get one vote for Speaker.  His own.

There must be something about our political system of which I am unaware. If Reagan were to descend from heaven and run for a third term how would that affect Gohmert's chances for the Speakership? The former is an office elected by the body of the people; the latter is an internal leadership position solely voted on by the members of the House.

Are you saying that if Reagan were to return he would run for and win both offices?

Or something?

It was an illustrtion of the relative likelihood of Gohmert becoming Speaker.

Ok, ty for the explanation, weird as it is. Kudos to EC for deciphering it. He must have a decoder ring.

DEMS never give an inch because the know that the other side will.

There are a lot of things that should not be subject to compromise.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
