Katie Pavlich’s taking on Obama’s BS; smashes five great gun control myths

katie-pavlichMany proposed gun control measures are often based on myths that seem to drive the agenda of anti-gun proponents.
In light of the tragic shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College, Townhall editor and frequent Fox News contributor, Katie Pavlich appeared on “Fox & Friends Weekend” Saturday to dispel the claims often made by gun control advocates.
Out of the starting gate, Pavlich called the gun show loophole “a huge myth,” saying that “the same federal firearms laws that apply outside of gun shows also apply inside of gun shows.”
Pavlich refuted President Obama’s recent statement that buying a gun is easier than buying vegetables, saying this myth is simply not true. One doesn’t have to present photo identification, fill out paperwork or go through a background check to buy groceries, she noted.
Referring to media outlets and gun control supporters’ claims that gun violence is skyrocketing, Pavlich said the data doesn’t support the claims.
“We’ve seen crimes carried out with firearms drop by 50 percent since 1993,” she said.
Another myth, the idea that gun-free zones reduce gun violence, can be refuted simply by the evidence.
“All but two places in terms of mass shootings over the past 50 years have occurred inside of gun-free zones,” Pavlich said.
The last myth discussed, and one often repeated by the president, is that no one is out to take your guns. Pavlich explained that this argument is not what it appears on the surface.
Obama advocates that Americans should emulate the gun laws of Australia and Great Britain, but Pavlich clarified this myth, saying that the president is “really talking about confiscation and bans on those handguns.”
