NPR Commissions “New” Southern Flag To Replace The Confederate Flag…

Oh boy.

Via AL.com:

    Southern pride.

In the heated debate surrounding the Confederate Flag, the defense offered by many has been that the symbol isn’t representative of a culture built on slavery and racism but is, instead, a banner representing that Southerners are simply proud of their home, their people and their culture.

“What other symbol immediately lets the world know you are from the South?” they argue.

To tackle the problem, Studio 360, a national public radio program, commissioned a Texas-based design firm to design a new flag to represent the modern South. With a diverse team of designers with ties to both sides of the Mason-Dixon line, 70kft embraced the challenge with an understanding of the importance of their task. […]

In an online presentation, 70kft suggests: “the Confederate battle flag is a divisive symbol. Some see family and honor. Some see bigotry and hatred. If we can’t agree on the meaning, we can never be unified by it.”

Their new flag is representative of “the diverse array of backgrounds, opinions, values and perspectives now found throughout the region create the very fabric of the modern South.”

So, is the government gonna mandate southerners adopt this oddly rainbow-like flag to symbolize southern - ahem - pride?

Well, maybe in the future.

I'm not feeling it, y'all.  I'm not saying it's a bad idea, maybe just poorly executed.

Right, because rebels take orders from NPR, of all places.

So let us see a "well executed" flag that us dumb rednecks can understand.  Give it a try.

Cause we kinda like the original battle flag.  NPR and their agents are so stupid, they have no idea what any of the three authentic confederate flags looked like.  The battle flag was to be recognized on the BATTLE FIELD.

Isn't it interesting. You're surfing through the radio channels and as soon as you come upon a whispering, monotonous, somnambulant voice, you know it's NPR. I bet the readers take special classes to learn how to speak NPR.

This is naked, revisionist history. These people are whacked if they think this flag is gonna fly.

Calm down, I'm a Texan.  Granted, more of a Sam Houston Texan, but still.  I don't have a problem with the battle flag of the army of Northern Virginia.

Sorry, Texan.  Yep the topic gets me riled up.
Just to set the record straight for NPR.  Here's the Confederate Flag.
So offensive.

As someone noted, the proposed flag looks like a Valvoline logo.

Did someone mention the great Sam Houston?

One thing very admirable about Texans is that they take they history seriously and still revere what men like General Sam, Deaf Smith, William Travis, James Fannin and the other defenders of Goliad, and, of course, the defenders of the Alamo did to secure their independence.

Sam Houston was a fascinating person.  A giant among men indeed.

Fascinating. I didn't know the details of his life - just the legend that grew up around him:

The only American to be elected governor of two different states (as opposed to territories or indirect selection), he was also the only governor within a future Confederate state to oppose secession (which led to the outbreak of the American Civil War) and to refuse an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy, a decision that led to his removal from office by the Texas secession convention.[2]

Houston was born at Timber Ridge Plantation in Rockbridge County of Virginia, of Scots-Irish descent. After moving to Tennessee from Virginia, he spent time with the Cherokee Nation (into which he later was adopted as a citizen and into which he married), military service in the War of 1812, and successful participation in Tennessee politics. In 1827, Houston was elected Governor of Tennessee as a Jacksonian.[3] In 1829, he resigned as governor and relocated to Arkansas Territory.[4] In 1832, Houston was involved in an altercation with a U.S. Congressman, followed by a high-profile trial.[5]

There's more! Read up on his life and times!

You are absolutely correct.  Thanks for stating my underlying objective for this thread so crisply.
