New Hillary TV Ad Stars House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy [VIDEO]

Posted By Chuck Ross On 11:29 PM 10/05/2015 In | No Comments

The main star in Hillary Clinton’s latest presidential campaign ad isn’t the Democratic front-runner herself. Rather, it’s a top House Republican whose recent comments about the special committee investigating the Benghazi attacks has served as political fodder for Democrats.

“The Republicans finally admit it,” begins the 30-second spot, which according to Vox, is set to run on cable television starting Tuesday.

The ad then flashes to House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who during an interview with Fox News last week committed what many consider to be a major political gaffe.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right?” asked McCarthy. “But we put together a Benghazi special committee. What are her numbers today?”

Democrats jumped on the comment, claiming it showed that Republicans are using the investigation into the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi to hinder Clinton’s presidential campaign. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called for the dissolution of the Benghazi Committee.

Clinton jumped on McCarthy’s remarks in several recent interviews, including one conducted Monday with “TODAY” saying that she “would never have” created the Benghazi Committee.

“Look at the situation that they chose to exploit to go after me for political reasons — the death of four Americans in Benghazi,” she exclaimed.

McCarthy’s remarks have proved a source of frustration even for his fellow Republicans. One of those who rebuked the California Republican is Utah U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz.

“That was not the reason we started,” Chaffetz said last week. “We started because there were four dead Americans and we didn’t have answers.”

Chaffetz, who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, announced Sunday that he is challenging McCarthy to fill Boehner’s spot. (RELATED: Republicans Criticize McCarthy Over Benghazi Remarks)

McCarthy digs in on Benghazi panel defense

By Julian Hattem - 10/06/15 10:20 AM EDT

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is reasserting his defense of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, hours after Hillary Clinton spun his previous comments about the panel into a major campaign ad.

"The mission of the Select Committee on Benghazi is to find the truth — Period,” McCarthy, the candidate for Speaker, said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

The “integrity” of panel Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and the other members “is beyond reproach,” he added.

“The serious questions Secretary Clinton faces are due entirely to her own decision to put classified information at risk and endanger our national security."

McCarthy’s defense was issued hours after Clinton’s presidential campaign released its first national television advertisement featuring the No. 2 House Republican’s comments from last week, which gave the committee credit for sinking her poll numbers.

“Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi Special Committee,” the ad quotes McCarthy as saying on Fox News last week. “What are her numbers today?”

“The Republicans finally admit it,” a narrator says in the ad for the former secretary of State.

McCarthy’s comments have left him reeling and upset the race for the next House leader, as his need to defend himself came up again on Tuesday.

While McCarthy is still seen as the front-runner, the week-old remarks have cast doubt on whether he is prepared to take on the top job. Over the weekend, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) announced he was running for Speaker, offering pointed blows at McCarthy’s verbal gaffe.

Clinton’s campaign ad underscores the political value her allies seem to sense in McCarthy’s comments, which one aide has called a “watershed moment.”

Severe case of Foot in Mouth disease.
McCarthy has no business in the speakers seat if he cannot control his mouth.

McCarthy with this little gaffe may have just ended his term as Speaker before it ever started.

Her Heinous must be in pretty bad shape to use that so early.

It would have been much more valuable to wait until McCarthy was Speaker and then run ads on it over the long-term.
